so my mom has recently come clean about wanting grandkids, and I've told her (with limited details) we're working on it.
This morning, in an email about other things, so asked if we've thought about names and said she started looking at baby stuff.
We have ZERO intention of telling anyone the names (well, you guys I will tell!) since I don't want our parents critizing, esp the ILs
So I told her "We're pretty set on Gertrude (Gerti) and Alfred (Freddy)."
And I mean no offense to anyone who likes these names, but they are total fakes ![]()
So she replies...
Old fashioned names?I like old fashion?Dad thinks you?re joking?he?s not crazy about either?.I?d rethink Gertrude..too ?old lady???Trudie or Gerti are both cute?why even use Gertrude? Alfred ..not bad?..my grandfather on my father?s side was Alfred (no nick name)?Freddy will remind people of Freddie Kruger?keep that in mind?Al, as a nick name, might be better?
Re: my mom & babies
your mom is so funny!!!
BIL and SIL are pregnant and we're sure they will have a girl and take our girl name. Ken's nanna was Grace and when she was dying she told him he was her favorite (I wonder if she told all her grandkids this, but he seems to think it was true and they were very close). He promised to name a daughter after her if we had one and I am fine with Grace as a first or middle name. But since BIL and SIL do everything just before us I'm sure they will take the good name.
Friends of ours named Matt and Patty are expecting their first baby in Jan (girl). They jokingly referred to her as "Matricia" and a coworker of Patty's was like "is that the real name?" hahahaha.

Ditto - though the Freddie Kruger comment made me lol. I would NEVER think that!
Ditto, this! Although my fear is if I don't share my name(s), then someone else will "claim" it and think we stole the name later. ::eyeroll::
ETA: We have been pretty open about our name selection, and luckily everyone has really liked it (aka not said anything mean/rude about it). Maybe it makes a difference if you say you are "considering" the name vs. "this is the name we chose." (Although people tend to be rude no matter what, so maybe not!)

Haha, I have that same fear
Though I am not pregnant and my friends who are have not mentioned any names that are on my back-of-the-mind list.
Ha, I would totally e-mail her back saying:
Just letting you know I am going to delete your last e-mail just in case. I'd hate for our future child with one of these names to read it.
hahaha

Too funny!! My friend who is recently pregnant called a truce on names at a party on Saturday night, as no one can be upset if people like the same names. Two couples in our group of friends named their daughters Madison.
Or like the Friends episode where Rachel and Ross are discussing names and they mention Phebo, and the doctor's like "please dont' name your kid Phebo"
Friends of ours are thinking Grayson if it's a boy, I really like that name...
That is hilarious! I'm glad your Dad at least got it.
I like the name Grayson, too!
I agree! But your mom is adorable! She sounds a lot like my mom

That is too funny! When/if we have kids, I don't want to share names either. Our fake names are Clementine and Linus. We'll probably tell people those names.

Late on this, but that is too funny.
My dad was convinced that we both knew the sex of P and had a name picked out but we just weren't telling. Neither was true, of course.
