Two ?'s: Dishwasher film and ring around drains..
I use Cascade Action Pacs and lately after I've run the dishwasher there's a fine film and little flakes from the pacs on the dishes (only the top rack though). Is this a typical problem with these? Or is it my dishwasher?
The drains in my bathroom sinks have a brownish ring around them. I get similar ones in the toilets also, so I'm assuming it's the type of water I have. The toilet bowl cleaner works on those and I've tried it on the sinks, but it didn't work. Any recommendations for products to get rid of this?
Thanks!
Re: Two ?'s: Dishwasher film and ring around drains..
First question: Try putting vinegar where the rinse formula goes or in the the bottom of the dishwasher.
Second question: I get a brown ring in my kitchen and bathroom sinks too. What I do is scrape it with a butter knife, then sprinkle baking soda + vinegar on it and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I scrub it. It usually works for me.
I don't know about the brown rings, but I can tell you that the film from the Cascade pacs are a common problem since they switched to the new phosphate-free stuff last summer. I'm tired of it, so I'm going to switch when I'm done w/ my current Costco box. I heard good reviews on the Finnish tablets (also at Costco).
I use vinegar in the bottom...maybe not enough because it hasn't helped? I've heard using Borax can help, but I don't know how much to use. Sorry I'm not much help!
ETA: I think it's *sulfate free* not phosphate free..??? maybe not. one of those
I can only answer for the brown rings, which are likely caused by iron staining. I agree with the other posters recs of baking soda paste or soft scrub.
But, if like me, you get them in the little crack where the sink meets the drain, let the paste soak in, then run a toothpick through there to get rid of the crud.
