I guess I should congratulate her

I have this friend who only seems to know how to speak in a language that brags about how awesome she is - subtly or not so subtly. It's like, every FB status is about her latest award or accomplishment or whatever cool place she happens to be visiting at the moment.

I just got this email from her saying basically: Hey, I'm writing to you from the awesome city I'm visiting right now. Just found out that the people who interviewed me last week LOVED me, so I've just landed the awesomest job with the awesomest boss at the awesomest institution EVAR. Oh yeah, in the awesomest city EVAR. Visit me! (So you can admire how awesome I am.)

So annoying.

I feel like I should congratulate her but it's pretty clear she already knows how awesome she is (or else is looking for validation). Do you have friends like this? Blech.

  • Oh my goodness...do I ever...or did I ever, I haven't really done much communicating since our move. It is even better when we receive the Christmas letter, luckily she doesn't have our new mailing address so I don't have to sit through that novel this Christmas. I think in her case she does it without realizing, and for the most part is an insecurity issue.

  • I can't stand people who constantly feel the need to brag. I know people that are like that, but they're more like acquaintences than friends.  I would just send a short message to say "Congrats", but don't feed into her ego. You don't want to make her head explode by filling it with compliments.

  • I kinda want to throat punch her.

  • I'm related to someone like that. =S
  • after all her bragging, I would honestly just write back...

    "congrats."

  • If was a group email, I would ignore.  But if she sent it to you individually, and especially if this is someone you are close with and want to remain friends with, I would at least send a quick "Congrats".
