I know a lot of people are really excited/following the story, but...

I so do not care about the William/Kate wedding. I could stand watching the morning news without hearing about it 6 times.

  • I guess I'm glad I don't watch local channels then, hehe. I'm happy for them but I'm not all into it either. I wouldn't mind watching it if they televise it though.

  • I just keep thinking, wow, they could do a lot with $40 million, but they're going to blow it on a wedding. wonderful.

I don't get our obsession with the royalty over there. People, we have been our own country for some time now. Move on.

Also, I would feel weird about the ring. Di didn't have a fantabulous marriage and then she died. Just saying. I would have the ring reset into a necklace or something and pick out a new engagement ring.

  • Me too.  I watch the Today Show at work and I'm so sick of it already.  I really don't care to hear them report on no news all day....kind of like when Chelsea Clinton got married this summer, I really couldn't have cared less.  Sure mention it, maybe once or twice, but was it really neccessary to have camera crews reporting from the location for days?!

I am the opposite, I am very excited for their wedding.  I think it's because they are in our age group and it's more relevant than Charles and Diana or Charles and Camilla.

I think part of it may also be that it is the fairytale: her family is middle class / commoners and she is marrying into royalty and will likely be the next queen.

I don't think one can just say we are our own country and cut ties ... many Americans still have family that tie back to GB so it's not all that cut and dry.

As far as the ring goes, I can see both sides of the argument, but Diana left it to William and as he explained it is his way of keeping her close throughout their wedding and marriage.  I think that is certainly a good reason.  I also don't think one could ever alter that piece, it would be a shame.

ETA: The $40 million price tag ... sure that's a lot to us, but the Royal family is paying for it (minus security).  In comparison to other weddings it is going to be modest and scaled back.  I think they still have to go through all the hoopla though because 1. the country gets so excited about it, 2. he is in line to be the next king, 3. heads of state from all over the world will be attending.

It has been reported that this will be a huge boost for their economy as well.

  • I don't tune into the news that much but from what I've seen its been covered a lot but not over the top.  I'm guessing the areas I look at just aren't all over it as some.  And I actually don't mind the press, because it is interesting.  As a kid who didn't think about being a princess at some point? :)

I like that he used his mother's ring too, a great way of honoring someone you loved and hold dear in your heart.
