? about International Travel & CC

So I just booked our Japan trip, yay! After booking though I'm wondering if I'm going to have problems when we check in at hotels. My CC is in my maiden name (only thing I didn't change, I was just too lazy to call and rarely use it). My passport is in my married name, passports are required to check into hotels there according to internet research. Do you think I will have problems because the last names don't match?

Re: ? about International Travel & CC

  • You might- I would try to contact someone ahead of time so you know if it will be a problem or not.

  • I'm willing to bet that it could be a problem.  And with the language barrier, it might be even more difficult to explain over there.

You still have 4 months before your trip.  I would change your name with the credit card company so they send you a new card, then contact the hotel/airline/booking agent you used to notify them of the name change and see if you need to do anything else.  Better to fix it now than have a problem on your hands in Japan!

And congrats on booking your trip!  It'll be here in no time!

  • I recently changed my name on everything but my passport. I would assume having a different last name would be difficult but changing your name on your credit cards is not. And for me at least, the number on all my cards were the same so I didn't have to go around moving all my stuff to a new card number. They just sent a new card with my new last name. It was really easy. Well minus American Express. They have to send me a form and whatnot... speaking of, they still haven't sent me that! But with my bank and Visa etc, all I had to do was call in. Simple.

This.  You have plenty of time to get it changed.

  • I agree with the other girls - you have plenty of time to change it. Have a great time on your trip and don't forget to notify your cc companies/bank that you'll be traveling out of the country.
  • I agree with all the previous posts.  Woohoo on booking your flights!
