Thanksgiving plans?

What are your plans?  Where are you going and what are you cooking?

Re: Thanksgiving plans?

  • Confused I'm staying home. I'm so upset with my inlaws right now, and in my current hormonal state, I seriously doubt I could keep my mouth shut around them.

Granted, I've yet to tell DH this, but my plan is:

DH is going to his brother's around 1pm and coming home about 5pm. I'm staying home and making a turkey. My parents and sister are coming over around 5.

  • My bday falls in Thanksgiving this year so I'm going to be lazy. Wink  We're going to the ILs Wednesday and staying through Friday.  I'm looking forward to it because I don't get any cell reception so I have no choice but to not worry about anything.

  • Going to SIL's in Houston tomorrow, coming back on Friday night.  Then we're having a party at our house on Saturday!!  Woo-hoo!

  • Through a series of unfortunate events, we are hosting Thanksgiving for the first year ever this year.  I don't think it will be a big deal, as DH's family is pretty small.  The problem is DSS' mom won't work with us on timing to have DSS; we both have meals planned for 1:00, but she wants him the rest of the day and isn't budging.  Which isn't how this works, TYVM.  Based on the changes there, my sisters and their kids may or may not come.  We'll see.  We have enough food and I'm sure everything will work out well.  With plenty of desert and drinks you can't go too terribly wrong, anyways.  ;)
  • On Thanksgiving morning, I'm walking the Turkey Trot with the BF and a few other friends.

Then, my family (who live local), are coming to my house to join us for dinner.  Different family members (my mom, my brother, brother's wife) keep telling me they're bringing (additional) different things, and at this rate we'll have enough food to feed my entire street.

  • we are hosting at our casa and Im very excited. FIL is driving in for a weekend visit and DH is very excited, he has only visited once in the 3yrs Ive known DH. My family is in town and will be coming over as well.

We are cooking a cajun turkey and honey ham, and everyone else invited has been asked to bring potluck.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can set up a game of washers in the backyard, light a fire in the pit, and watch some football. All that and a few adult beverages to smooth out the bumpy family edges and it will be a great day! Stick out tongue

  • I'm kind of jealous of those hosting small family get-togethers.  If we ever hosted it would be a HUGE production because I have a lot of extended family in the area and they'd all expect to be invited.  We're talking card tables in the hallway and dozens of people.  I love the chaos (and the aftermath where we're all fighting for spots on the couch to take a nap) but I can't wait to have my own grown up Thanksgiving dinner one day.

  • We'll be celebrating with my inlaws, dh's grandma,  uncle and aunt in PA.  I'll be bringing my specialty-wine.
  • we said screw the family (j/k); let's go to puerto rico! we'll be there for 5 days, lounging and drinking pina coladas. i've never done an island vacation, and this was the only way to avoid DH from having to take too many vacation days.
  • We're hosting and it's getting out of hand. We did it last year for DH's parents and my parents. This year we added a couple of friends, a bunch of nieces and a sister. I've been running around all day looking for an inexpensive folding table. At this point, I'm ready to say f-- it, and have everyone eat picnic style.

Eat in shifts. Growing up we had huge thanksgiving dinners. Think my big fat Greek wedding, but Mexican. There were two full size tables and the men would eat first, then the kids, and then the women would sit as space became available. Yeah, that was sexist but you could do it by age. Oldest first. Wink

We are having T-day here at either my house or the IL's. It'll be a last minute decision. We only live a couple blocks apart so it's not a big deal.  If we get a new kitchen table we will probably host. Where ever we eat I'm doing the turkey.

  • DH's parents and sister are on their way to austin right now.  On Thanksgiving we're going to just ear "normally" and then go to the UT game.  On Friday morning, we're all driving to San Antonio to see his extended family to do Thanksgiving on Friday.  They were all so nice and agreed to move the festivities so we could all be together.

I won't be allowed to bring anything because they have all their family recipes that they won't sway from... which upsets me a little bit that I'm not "included" but not enough to say anything.  I'll just show up and eat - which isn't so bad, I guess.

  • We are staying here and I am cooking a smaller T'giving dinner for the two of us. I am making a chocolate mousse pie from scratch! This should be interesting...

    ETA my menu:

    turkey breast and gravy

    stuffing

    green beans

    cranberry sauce

    roasted sweet potatoes

    chocolate pie

Can I come to your house?  It sounds so pleasant.  The cracks are already coming through on my plans.  I may have to start drinking early.  Like noon, today.  Tongue Tied

Nope. Though you did miss a great party at my house. :)
