How are you doing "turkey?"

So, how are you all spending your Thanksgiving holidays (even if you are vegetarian and don't eat turkey)? Anything fun planned?  Anyone shopping on Black Friday? If so, what are you planning to buy?

Re: How are you doing "turkey?"

  • I have no idea what we're doing yet!! Is that bad? Tongue Tied

I've been so overwhelmed with school that i haven't had a chance to think about it. We were originally going to NH to spend times with the ILs, but since we're also going to a wedding on Saturday the 27th back in PA, we decided not to go to NH. We would only be there for basically one day and it wouldn't be worth the hassle and the travel.

I'm thinking i wanna try to watch the Macy's balloons get inflated...i've never done that before and don't know when i'll ever get the chance again! And as long as i'm with DH, we can eat pbj's on Thanksgiving for all i care!! Wink

Then we're heading to the Newark Airport on Friday the 26th to pick up a rental car to drive to PA and we'll come back on Sunday. I'm looking forward to having a weekend away though!!

  • I have some family coming over and I am making turkey chili with all the trimmings!!!  I wanted something I could make the day before so that I don't spend the WHOLE day in the kitchen.  Really looking forward to it!
  • We've made our reservation at a restaurant. Doing Thanksgiving dinner at Tom Coliccho's newest restaurant, Colicchio and Sons. Friday, we are going to the Syracuse basketball game (woohoo!) and spending the night in Atlantic City.
  • We're heading to NJ (my dad's bro's house), along with my 'rents, sis and her family...should be nice. I'm not allowed to shop on black friday (as per DH). He says the stores will be too crowded and people are nuts, so he doesn't want his 8 1/2 month pregnant wife involved in that. Ok, but I was hoping to get us a good deal on a video camera. =/

Babe, that's what Cyber Monday is for.

  • Oh, we're flying out on Wednesday to spend the holiday with my ILs. Flying with 8 month old baby and puppy should be a TON of fun! haha. I'm sure it will be fine, or at least interesting.

I do most of the cooking and menu planning for the big day - not sure if we're going shopping, but I'm sure we will at some point. I was just looking over my xmas gifts to buy list....ugh don't know what to get anyone.

  • We've always gone to my uncle's house in NJ, but it looks like we're doing it at my parents' house this year. It'll be a lot fewer people and probably a little more doable. My mom surely will be overwhelmed with all the cooking though, but we're all bringing something too.

And I've literally never done Black Friday, and quite frankly, there's no way I'm getting up at 3am just for some deals (that, and we don't really need anything).

  • My mom and I are co-hosting. ?We are sharing all of the cooking. ?We have about 15 people?coming?over. I am trying to plan some fun turkey day games for my little 3 year old niece. ?I'm taking off on Wednesday and she is going to help me make pies! ?;-)?
  • We're going to my aunts house in Nyack first and then we're going to the Jets game!  I'm so excited!

  • We are staying home, and I am cooking a nice Southern feast.  So far, a couple that we are very close with is coming over to have dinner with us....This will be the smallest Thanksgiving that I've had so far.  DH is back to work in the hospital on Friday and Saturday, so I am on my own for the weekend.  I'm not big on Black Friday because I'm not much on crowds...but I do love me some Cyber Monday!

  • We're having Thanksgiving just the two of us. Our friends our going away to visit their family. We were invited, but I'm just starting to feel better and want to stay around here. I want to go into Manhattan beforehand to see the balloons on Wed. or over the weekend. I have a flat version of my cousin visiting that needs to visit the sites.

  • we're driving up to my parents on Tuesday night (yay will beat the traffic for the first time in years, usually we'd leave from Manhattan on Wednesday around 3:30 - so annoying!)

I will be eating lots of turkey and side dishes!

Will also be shopping on black friday, and possibly wednesday and Saturday too.  Friday and Wednesday will be shopping around Albany, NY (where my parents live) and Saturday we may be stopping at Woodbury commons on our drive back to the city.

Things we're looking to purchase include: baby items, ties for DH, possibly a mattress and maybe even some kitchen items.  I don't fit into normal clothes anymore and refuse to buy any more maternity clothes so this year I won't be getting much, if anything for myself!

Hope everyone has a great holiday!

  • We will be staying home this year since both my husband and I have to work on Friday.  My oven is on the fritz (electronic keypad all screwed up), so I will be using an electric roasting pan, as well as the toaster oven and microwave. Good thing is is just the two of us.

On Friday, we get out at 1:00pm, so I will be doing some shopping in the city before I head home.  On Saturday, husband is probably working so I will go over my son's house to see the kids.  Should be a lotta fun!

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
