I just got a call from my dad that made my day, even week!
So, a little background. I come from a small immediate family; just my mom, dad, and myself. They each had several siblings, but not I. So typically on holidays, my H and I go between my parents, and his family for each holiday (we grew up in the same area). I love spending time with his family because he has siblings, and their wives, and the kids, and it just feels so nice to be around a lively family! Well, my SIL is taking back Thanksgiving from my MIL and we are combining her parents and siblings, along with IL's, kids, etc. Last week when she and I were talking about it, she extended a verbal invitation for my parents to join saying, "I don't care if I have two extra or 20." I thanked her but doubted my parents would want to join. My mom is kind of shy, and always feels like she is imposing even when she has been invited.
Well, tonight while talking to my dad, he said "if they still don't mind if we join everyone, we would like to come down." I am beyond ecstatic! I need to talk to SIL tomorrow to make sure she still doesn't mind, but I'm hoping she doesn't. To me, this is what Thanksgiving is all about and I can't wait for everyone to be under one roof! I never have been really close with my extended family, and it is one of the many things that I love about H's family; they are all tight knit! I can't help but smile, even as I type about it!
Sorry this ended up so long. If you made it through, you deserve a calorie free tasty treat of your choice!![]()

I love you, Daddy...2/24/1953 to 2/13/2011
That is great, you will have such a wonderful holiday!!! A few years ago we had my IL's to Thanksgiving at my aunt's house, and it was wonderful.... my DH is an only child also. I loved not having to balance the time and just going to one place on Thanksgiving day instead of rushing to be present two separate places. (not to mention having everyone celebrating under one roof!)
I am hoping my large and close-knit extended family will include my IL's for Christmas this year
