Christmas Stockings

Do you hang them up? Where did you find yours? Are they just the generic red stockings with your names on them?

We have never hung any up, but I'm going to this year. I want them to be something that fits our personality. I just ordered H one that fits him perfectly, but I am having a hard time finding one for me. I really want one from Gussy - but I've been trying to find one that's a little cheaper (I have a hard time justifying a $30 stocking). But, unless I find something soon, my want-to is going to override my money-smarts.

Re: Christmas Stockings

  • I have four needlepoint type stockings I got at the dollar store.  They are really nice looking for the $1 each I paid for them.  They have different designs on each (snowman, santa, etc.).  I fill one each for my parents, one for FIL and one for DSS because they're usually there for Christmas morning.

I bought two stocking hangers this year that I'm going to use to hang them on my TV table in front of the two glass doors.  I thought 4 would be a little too much on the TV table, and I don't have a fireplace.

You should get an OSU stocking.

  • We hang up the red stocking with our names on them. Mine was made by a friend years ago, and I found DH's on post-Christmas clearance at Target.

Do you know anyone who can make you a similar stocking for cheaper? Maybe a custom order on Etsy? Or you could buy a cheap one for this year, then look at the clearance sales after Christmas for a nicer one.

  • I love Christmas stockings! It is one of my favorite decorations ever!! We used to have just some cheapy ones I bought at Big Lots but last year I made them from a pattern I found. I love them but they are a little smaller than I would like so the boys (our dogs) will be getting those and I will make new big ones for me and D. I jet need to hit up the fabric store to get what I need because I need to make a tree skirt this year too!
No....click me!!!! Cause I'm the wedding bio! Bloggin it up! Prince Charming stole my heart and we rode off on his white horse... • we have stockings, but I don't even remember what they look like!  I am going to look for new ones this year after Christmas so that we can have 5 that match for next year.

I think I got the ones we have at Target and Lowe's maybe (I think H's, V's, and mine match but M's is different since I had three last year and just got one for her)

  • They are around here somewhere. I need to get one for Callie and Extra, actually. I didn't hang any up last year because I couldn't really decide on where. Also, H isn't really used to stockings and doesn't really understand the concept of filling them, so everyone always gets a full stocking except me! If we had kids, I would definitely do stockings. And they would be full to the brim, just like they were for us. Even if it was just silly stuff.

  • We don't do stockings but I think we should!  We'll definitely do them when we have kids, but I'd like to get them for myself, DH, and Maddux this year.  I have no idea where we would hang them though....
I should start looking into this....where can I get an OSU one for me and a hunting/OU themed one for DH? Stick out tongue

A couple of years ago, when my little brother was still in elementary, they had that Santa's Secret Shop thing or whatever. He bought me two OSU snowman stockings (one for me and one for H) and that was my gift from him. He was so proud of himself - it was cute. And, I really do like them, but (it's hard to explain) the way they are made makes them extremely difficult to fill. I still hang them up, but they aren't extremely usable.

  • We have three (technically four, but one isn't embroidered yet) stockings from Pottery Barn Kids.  Tyler's has a nutcracker on it, mine a snowman, B's has an airplane, and the future child's has a reindeer.  They're super cute, and each one is embroidered.  Mine says Mom, T's says Dad, and B's just says his name.

  • H has the traditional stocking and I have a plaid trimmed red stocking. We plan on hanging them up but their mostly for looks. We haven't put anything in them for the last couple of years.

ETA: We got our stockings at Wal-Mart and they do not have our names on them.

  • We have gold stockings that match our tree skirt; I got them at Hobby Lobby 1/2 off. I would like to get different ones but I am anal about the skirt and stockings to match the tree decor. Plus this is only the 3rd year we have used them so Im not going to part with them just yet.
