Hi Ladies,
So I am on a medication that I can not get pregnant. We are planning on doing the FAM but DH and I have been intimate au natural for so long that he has real issues when we have used the male condom. So we're thinking of trying the female condom. If you have any input on what it is like to use one, good brands, any information you can think of really it would be much appreciated. TIA!
God and I define my success. It is not what is commonly imagined. A.W.

Re: Female condom users?
I MUCH prefer the female condom as it feels so much more comfortable and natural than the male version. Like many men, I view condoms as a 'neccessary evil' and always found using the male condom very difficult and unpleasant. If one has the perfect penis then perhaps it's easier, however I have one which is very thick at the base, quite curved in an upwards direction and with a long foreskin! Consequently, I have to hold the base ring of the male condom with one hand during intercourse to prevent it travelling up and into the vagina with each thrust, and find the feel quite unatural as the top end becomes folded inside my foreskin. Additionally, the base ring cuts uncomfortably when first put on due to my thickness and because i'm curved there are always wrinkles formed on the side facing my belly. With polyurethane condoms these wrinkles are surprisingly sharp and cause soreness to both of us.
I found the female condom was like a breathe of fresh air after the hated male version! The 'femidom' is the only condom that I can reach a climax inside,...with male condoms we used to pull it off after intercourse so that I could orgasm outside of the vagina. Although we both came to enjoy this part of sex, it's nice to be able to reach a climax naturally inside ones partner at least sometimes!
The femidom can unfortunately have it's own set of problems;.......it's expensive here in the UK and has been very hard to find in the past. We now buy online in quantity and this helps to make it's purchase fairly painless. The UK 'comedienne' Jo Brand used to make numerous jokes about the female condom in her 'stand-up' routine and this nearly ended it's sale here......Thanks Jo!
The FC can be daunting at first. Unfortunately, it does not look apealing,......it looks like some kind of surgical appliance and is big and unwieldy when unpacked. The woman is supposed to fit the smaller ringed end inside her vagina and ujp against the cervix. Not surprisingly, this is not quick, discrete or romantic. In practice, it's much better for the male partner to gently install the FC during foreplay. There are several ways to do this but perhaps the best is to place it over your fingers as you stimulate the outer lips and entrance and then slide your fingers in and out until you have found the cervix with your finger tip then you simply leave the top of the FC in place!....this sounds much more complicaterd than it actually is and done discretely your partner is unaware that the FC is now in place.
Another way which I now use it to simply use your erect penis to insert it,.......just place the FC over the penis being sure to put the top ring in the right place to go over the cervix. If facing the woman, place the ring on the head of your penis facing you,...if penetrating your partner from behind, pull the ring under the head. The main thing is to ensure that there is no twists in the membrane. Once fitted you can both forget about the FC and the man can use both hands to make love to his partner without having to hang on to the condom. For me, it feels much like unprotected intercourse,....I am vaguely aware of the large outer ring every time I penetrate fully, but it is not any sort of problem, indeed it serves as a check that the FC is ok and still in the right place, although this is just a formality really.
Have you considered a diaphragm?
I used one for 20 years with no unintended pregnancies.
The IUD's of old had much more complications. You should talk to you GYN. I know many with Mirena, who have had great success with it. No complications. In addition, it typically reduces or stops your period.
You might want to reconsider you bias against this. I am glad I did.
We are trying different condoms per users rec's from the board. We finally got a shipment in. We got Crown and Beyond Seven.
I've been there with the "it's weird" stuff. I hadn't thought about female condom. I'll let you know how our little experiment works.
I have once used a female condom and I totally agree with the PP comment on using a sandwich bag. It protected me from getting pregnant, but it was definitely really different and I didn't like the feeling of it.
When using condoms I learned to love the Skyn ones. They feel pretty darn close to natural.
