Poor Pooch
So I am having a meeting at my house tonight. I am out sprinkling salt. There is a car zooming by and a strange sound. A brown box or bag skids down the street and the car slows then stops. The brown thing runs up my street ? it was a dog. The car is stopped, it inches forward, then stops. I start going toward the street and a worker van takes a long pause at the crossroad stop sign. The car that hit the dog takes off. I do not think the car saw me and they didn?t know if the man in the van would stop to help?.they just got scared and drove off not knowing when someone would find the dog.
The van pulls up to me. He tells me the car just hit my dog?.I tell him it is not my dog. The man in the truck waits to see what I do. The dog is my neighbor?s dog. I go running towards their house and the man gets out of the truck to try and keep the dog still.
I ring my neighbor?s doorbell compulsively and bang on the door. The door must not have been latched because it pushes open. Here I am standing in my neighbor?s house?the daughter is looking at me like I had gone mad and was there to kill her. I just yell at her ?someone hit your dog? and dash out. She is pretty quick to follow. I am looking up the vet hospital number on my phone on my way back and the man in the van is doing a pretty good job of keeping the dog calm.
The man helps the family put their dog in the car and they go off to the vet hospital. The dog couldn?t move his legs, but her was not crying and didn?t wince when he was moved?which seemed good at the time, but probably is not a good thing since it may mean he couldn?t feel it.
It was pretty impressive, the whole thing from dog hit by car to dog in car only took about 5 minutes?.I wonder if that will help him.
Poor dog, he is a real nice dog. I can see the whole thing happen right now and it makes my hands shake. The whole meeting I was seeing the dog, my cat or myself being hit by cars. I can?t imagine what that person who hit the dog is feeling right now?although, they deserve it for driving off without offering help.

Sad. The poor thing is likely in shock and thats why he's not responding. I hope his injuries aren't too bad. We had 2 hit-by-cars a few weeks ago and they were pretty bad.
I can't believe that people don't stop when they hit an animal, it is so evil to just leave them. I hope they are feeling guilty.

Tired after a long morning of hiking and swimming.
I am hoping to see him outside....but I am guessing that won?t happen for a while even if he isn?t paralyzed. Maybe in the deck door or something. I don?t see the neighbors out much unless it is the daughter and she is playing with the dog and I don?t feel like I know them well enough to nock on their door and ask if they might have put him down. I said he ran up the street, but that was not really true. He dragged himself without moving his back legs about 50 feet towards home before he saw people coming. Starting at his hips his body was all twisted to the left pretty abnormally.
That absolutely breaks my heart. :-( I hope the dog is okay!
It's one thing if the dog pulled a Houdini and escaped and got hit, but if it is a case of the owners thinking it is okay to just leave their dog outside unattended I hope they learn a lesson from this sad situation. So sad. This is why my dogs are never ever outside by themselves.
I hate to wish a guilty conscience on someone but in this case I really hope the person who hit the dog and drove off does some serious thinking about this. I don't know if I could handle hitting a dog. I cried after hitting a squirrel. :-/

Saw my neighbor dad out today. The dog has a slipped disc pushing on the spine and causing him to be paralyzed. They are going to wait a few days to see if he re-gains movement when they do whatever they do for a slip disc.
I just don't understand how someone could hit a dog and just drive away without helping. So wrong.
I also don't understand people who leave their dogs outside unattended. I am way too afraid of something like this happening, we never leave our dog outside alone.
Hopefully the dog will recover, and hopefully his owners learn a valuable lesson about leaving him outside unsupervised.
