sprained back?

Sunday morning we went to see the Harry Potter movie. Afterwards we went to an Indian Buffet for lunch with friends. As I was getting up from the table, I must have twisted funny or something, because I felt my back hurting. When we got home I rested with my feet up, took a couple of Aleve and put a heating pad on.

I slept ok that night, but Monday morning I couldn't even get my shoes on without DHs help. I went to work (like a huge idiot) where I hobbled around most of the day. I could barely stand up straight and I had to pick up the babies as part of my job. I ended up leaving a couple hours early to go to the dr, where he told me a sprained my back and prescribed me some muscle relaxers and painkillers. (cyclobenzaprine & tramadol)

they both make me drowsy. I called out today and have spent most of the day in and out of sleep. this is the worst pain I have ever felt in my life!

I asked the dr what else I could do-stretches? ice? heat? all he said was "don't go out dancing anytime soon"

anyone have any ideas/advice?

TIA

~Jenny

Re: sprained back?

  • Ugh, don't you hate it when you are asking for advice from the doctor and they are so un-helpful? I have no experience but I am sorry you are hurting. Hope you feel well soon!

  • Oh no, that stinks.

I have no advice, just heat, and rest. I don't know really what stretches you could do. I don't know if stretching would help or hurt.

    I hope you recover quickly!

  • Ug - that's awful. So sorry you're dealing with that Jenny. Just keep trying to do the heat and rest program, which I'm sure is difficult with your job.

When I have back trouble, I am also a believer in heading to the chiropractor. I know some people definitely don't like them (and that's fine), but I have a good one who has helped me. It's just important to do some background research and gets recs before you go to one. I also don't know directly what they can or would do for a sprain, so I'd mention that to them if you are thinking of going to one.

    Heal up soon!

  • thanks ladies. I went back to work for wednesday and it feels a lot better to keep moving around. this morning I drove to MIL's and the 2 hour car trip was not fun! I stopped a couple times to stretch and to readjust my seat, but now i'm laying on my stomach with a pillow under my hips and that helps a lot.

sitting is the most painful (which sucks when the main focus of today is eating!) and we're going to a buffet so I have to be in a restaurant which means I can't stand up to eat...

    happy thanksgiving ladies!
