For minimum wage my carpal tunnel syndrome which has been non-existant for 5 years has come back, AND right before I plan on going back to school! I had left graphic design because of it, but decided I was ok to go back into the industry. Awesome. ![]()
Supposed to work a half day tomorrow before we leave for FL, I'm thinking I'm going to call in sick. I've pushed through the last few days (left an hour early the last 2), but I don't know if I can do another day this week. Was only planning on working there until the end of the week before Xmas, but I might be leaving sooner. I'm only able to write this because I just took 2 liquid advils.
DH is pushing me to get a wrist brace (or 2), which I think I'll have to give in to. I'm thinking I'm going to paint it with robots and make it my bionic arm.
Re: Why I hate my job more than I already did
That SUCKS.
I have really bad wrists (probably carpal tunnel), and I had to quit crocheting because of it.
Our campus transitioned to Macs this year, and my wrist condition, which had been mostly dormant, flared up again as soon as I had to start using the Mac mouse. I'm guessing that you'd be using Macs in graphic design?!
I hope you can find a wrist and/or computer peripherals that will help you manage it. A brace does help me somewhat when it gets bad.
I've been doing data entry and that's why it's gotten so bad. Mostly doing numerical entry... urgh.
Hopefully when I go back to school won't be doing such repetitive motions. When I was working as a production artist it was really repetitive since it was production... creative shouldn't be as horrible, I HOPE!
You can switch out your apple mouse for a regular or ergonomic mouse.
I did.
I know what you mean about data entry. When I have to crunch fines at the end of every semester, it's incredibly repetitive and my wrists always act up bad.
I tell HH all the time I think I'm getting carpal tunnel. I do data entry and every once in a while my right wrist starts acting up. It probably doesn't help that I sometimes had to wear a wrist brace when I was a cheerleader in school. My Dad has it in each wrist, he has special braces he has to sleep in sometimes. I hope that if I do have it (or am getting it) that its not as bad as his.
Yeah, my dad has it, too. His usually only acts up when he has to use the jackhammer a lot at work, but when it's bad, it's really bad and he can't even sleep at night.
