What are you doing for Thanksgiving?

Since the board seems slow today ...

Are you hosting?  Staying local?  Going somewhere?  Boycotting turkey?

Re: What are you doing for Thanksgiving?

  • I'm staying local, going to my parents house.  I've spent one too many day before Thanksgiving in an airport, so I'm thankful I won't be anywhere near one this week.

  • We're going to GMILs house and I want to pretend to be sick so I can stay home Indifferent I don't want to go!

  •
DD and I are headed to Dad's.  Just got word that my grandparents are coming, too!  So stoked.  I miss them terribly.  Plus, I get to see my sister and nephew, and we'll be going to the zoo/park I went to as a kid.  I'm excited to take DD.  :)

H is staying home with the dogs and will probably eat Wendy's or some such for dinner tomorrow.

I am also excited for Jack Daniel's Cake! http://i53.tinypic.com/2jg0787.jpg

Why? Because she's a bad cook?  Because there's family drama?  Because the house smells like old people?

  • Staying local - we almost always do. For the first time since moving to NYC we are NOT going to the Macy's Parade, which I'm excited about. It's always fun, but so cold and crowded. We might go to the balloon inflation tonight though (you can walk through the area where they inflate all the parade balloons and take pictures).

Even though we're not going to the parade we ARE going out in the morning, b/c H is running a 5-mile Turkey Trot in Prospect Park in the morning. So I'll go cheer him on then we'll come home to watch the DVR-ed parade, drink wine, and cook. We always cook the full Thanksgiving feast for ourselves.

After dinner we'll decorate our Christmas tree and I'll make soup. :)

    Happy Thanksgiving, ladies!

  • We are having Thanksgiving at our house this year. I am not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to do it.
  • Hosting. My H's whole family is coming, parents, two sisters with husbands and their kids. We will have 5 kids under the age of 5 in my house, plus a dog that we're watching for a friend.

Even with the kids, his family is super low stress. His whole family is from Laos, and they've been here for 30 years (almost to the day), but Thanksgiving doesn't have any rules or expectations. We're making a turkey and a bunch of sides, my SIL is bringing a ham, lo mein noodles, and fried rice. My MIL will make sticky rice, and some spicy papaya salad thing they always make for family gatherings. Just like the first Thanksgiving.

Because the house is tiny (AKA small table) There will probably be 1 pie and a tub of ice cream to split between 9-10 ppl. I still have to cook and bring all the sides since the only thing that anyone else is handling is the turkey and the pie.

Not to mention DHs family is ALWAYS late and I'm kind of pretty upset at BIL and SIL for their buttheadness.

My brother invited us to NY and we're not going, which I'd much rather do.

My BFF and her sister (my "little sister") both have no where to go for Thanksgiving and I can't invite them to DHs because ILs aren't that welcoming to non-family people at family events.

Yeah, basically i'm bitter because i'm not hosting.

  • I don't know what I'm doing.  I do know that I will not be cooking though.  I told my husband I wanted to go out to dinner.  He suggested that his mom would cook.  I know it's mean, but I don't want her to cook.  She's good at making Korean food, but after the year that she was in charge of Thanksgiving and made giblet gravy and instant mashed potatoes, I'd rather she stayed away from the holiday meals.  If we go out to dinner, everyone wins.  We get good food, no one has to cook, and we don't have a mess to clean up afterward!

LMFAO.  I know how you feel.  That's why we won't be hosting a holiday for a few more years.

  • We're hosting. We just invited a couple friends over. H will be in charge of cooking, from apps to dessert :)

  • We are going to IL's for dinner.  I'm sad I don't get to see my family this year, but we do alternate even if it does pisss my IL's off.  I am making a Thanksgiving dinner for us and my mom on Saturday.  I do this mostly so I can have the left over turkey.  I love leftover turkey!
  • We are having 5 people over to our house. We LOVE hosting Thanksgiving! :)

  • We always do the same thing for Thanksgiving & go to my parents house here in Tampa. It's usually about 6-8 of us and my mom cooks & everyone else brings a side or dessert to share. We drink lots of wine and just have fun being together :-) I'm hoping to host maybe next year once our new seating area is done on the patio we're having installed, but for now I enjoy just going to my parents!

  • I'm heading to Jax tomorrow morning, to my parents' house. I'll hang there for a bit, and then we all head over (incl my sister and Grandma) to my parents' neighbor's house for early Thanksgiving dinner. They're our lifelong friends. But then I have to leave in the early evening to start attending events for my friend's wedding. The events last from Thurs- Sat :p

And MH will be here in Tampa. He can't come with me because he has to work. If anyone read my IL post yesterday, you know that he will have his Tgiving dinner at home by himself, with some Boston Market (if they're open) and football. He can't wait!

  • We will be here for Thanksgiving spending it with my family.  We alternate Thanksgiving and Christmas between my family and H's.  So Thanksgiving in Tampa this year and Christmas in Massachusetts.

My family is laid back.  We will all hang out together at my sister's tomorrow and have a fairly traditional meal.  I am bringing corn casserole, lima beans, and beer bread.  Looking forward to bringing more than just store bought rolls!  I am not much of a cook, but have been trying to get better.

We will just hang out, watch football, eat too much, possibly help my sister get her tree up and decorated.

I'm just looking forward to having 4 days off!  I have been so busy at work lately, that I need some down time with no plans.

    Happy turkey day!

  • Orignally I was supposed to host 18 people at my house and by some miracle I got out of it! woo hoo!  I love hosting but I just dont have the room to have 18 people at a sit down dinner in my house.  So now we are going to my Moms for dinner and H's Aunts for dessert.  I hate splitting the day between two places but atleast we dont have to eat dinner twice this year.

Oh, and I am really sad about missing dessert at my Moms.  She told me last night she got a red velvet cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory Crying  I also found out last night that my little Bro is going to make it down after all! He is super busy studying for the LSATs and working so he thought he couldnt come.  He hasnt seen Brady in a few months so we are looking forward to the visit.

This used to be our schedule too - and if MIL hadn't passed away, we'd be on the same FL/MA schedule as you (FIL would rather spend holidays with new GF, so we're doing holidays without him)

  • We go to my moms every year for Thanksgiving... except last year, my sister hosted and it was a disaster, I actually haven't spoken to her in almost a year, somewhat for things that happened on Thanksgiving.

I end up having to work every year on Thanksgiving, which is okay b/c I can do it while MH throws a football outside with my family but sometimes I just wish I could take the day off :)

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am so excited to be eating some turkey and mashed potatoes tomorrow! I asked my mom to cook as early as possible b/c ever since I got PG (and sick), my stomach shrunk horribly and I haven't been able to sit and eat a whole plate of food, only small amounts every hour or so.I plan on eating throughout the day tomorrow.

  • We're staying local, but, I have to work. DH will have dinner with the neighbors.  Friday we will make our dinner, and put up our tree.  Oh the joys of living so far from family and working in the medical field......Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!!

  • Are you hosting? Nope.

    Staying local?  Nope.

Going somewhere? Going to West Palm Beach

    Boycotting turkey? Always.

ETA:  Apparently I was the only one who took this as a poll.  H and I are headed to his parents after lunch.  I have a pie and soup to make.  Must get going.

Lots to be thankful for this year!

  • Having dinner with H's family. I am looking forward to it, but it is not the same as the good Thanksgiving dinners I was used to growing up! We have had T-day with them every year since being together and I cannot wait to host it myself and make real Thanksgiving food! H's mom makes pureed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes. Just one thing I have to look forward to!

As a potato lover....that's just wrong! ;) My cousin mashes up cauliflower and puts it in her mashed potatoes for her boys so they at least get vegetables that way. I am going to remember that if our LO refuses to eat veggies. I am not loving veggies right now, so it's very possible she won't like them either!

  • No we are not hosting this year. We usually alternate Thanksgiving between IL and my family, either here, Miami, or Ga. So this year SIL is hosting, I am only making one side and a couple of sweet potato pies, my feet have started to swell easily so standing cooking for long hours is not fun!
  • We're staying here.  We'll be eating with DH's immediate family, which is not all that exciting since I see them all the time.  Plus the family dynamics aren't the greatest.  Anyway, I'm making the turkey (since if I didn't, MIL would just buy it) and a pumpkin pie and a cake that is in the oven right now.  MIL is making random stuff (chicken and dumplings being one thing).  She lives the Atkins diet all year, but goes off for Thanksgiving. Oh, and she bought some other desserts.

We always stay here for Thanksgiving and go to my parents in TN for Christmas.

  • My mom and step-dad are coming out to Denver tomorrow am! And BIL will also be joining us for Tksgiving! This is our 2nd year hosting and I am glad we have family come and visit us for the holidays!

We have a 19 lbs turkey, 2 potato dishes, yams, pumpkin pie, stuffing, cookies, and a couple of vegetable dishes. DH is a chef! lol

  • My H and our two dogs are coming to St. Pete to have Thanksgiving with our families. We go to my parent's house first for an early "dinner" and then we go to SIL's house for a later dinner. It's a pretty long day for us since we leave our house Thanksgiving morning.

Plus, there is some family drama going on with both of our families this year so I'm not totally looking forard to it :(

  • We are going to my bother's house. This is the first year in ages we are not hosting and while I enjoy it normally, I'm just glad to not be doing it this year. I've been sick for weeks now and I'm just really tired.

We did Thanksgiving with H's family this past weekend, and my mom goes to her house in NC every Thanksgiving, so it will just be my dad, my brother's family and us. I think it's going to be a really laid back nice day.
