I'm dying of boredom

K and I are leaving and driving to IN this afternoon.  He can't leave work til 11, so I'm stuck waiting b/c he has the car.  No one is here at work today and I'm unmotivated.  I swear it was 9:30 like 3.5 hours ago.

Anyone else working today?  Wanna entertain me?

Re: I'm dying of boredom

  • I'm "working," but all caught up with everything.  My boss hasn't told us if we can leave early yet, but I'm hoping to be out of here by 2 at the latest.  I'm seriously wondering why I didn't just request a half day today - totally should have.  Hubby should be getting out early too - the sooner we can get on the road to NY the better!  I can't wait but am preparing myself for lots of traffic.

  • Ugh.  Traffic.  I can't imagine what 95 looks like already!  I'm not looking forward to our drive either, but at least the further west we get (typically) the lighter traffic is.  With all this stupid protesting in the security lines at airports, though, I'm happy to not be dealing with that!

H and I are lucky with our company - they give us early outs before each holiday.  We're technically supposed to be able to leave at 2, but since both of our supervisors are out, we're taking off even earlier. :-)

  • I am also "working" today. Or sitting on my computer looking up random things on the web. I also need entertaining.

  • I'm "working" too.. we get out at 3 today but I'm hoping to scoot at like 2:30. This is basically the most pointless day ever, as are most days surrounding the Holidays :) I love this time of year.

Be safe traveling, everyone!! J & I are lucky in that are parents are a half-hour car ride away, although it would be fun to be able to travel.

  • I'm here...kinda. I'm working from home and its difficult to keep switching back and forth from work stuff to here. I have no idea why I scheduled a conference call for 3 PM. Such a dumb idea!

I'm debating on whether or not to stick my turkey in the sink with water or if he'll defrost all on his own. He's 10 lbs. and we picked him up from the freezer section last night. Dinner is at 1:30 tomorrow.

I've looked at the traffic maps a few times and 95 isn't that bad yet...surprisingly. WJZ is reporting that driving up 95 to DE will take an extra hour or 2. I'm so happy I'm home.

Do you have it in the fridge?  I think I'd put it in water.  Last year we bought our 12 lb-er 2 days before Thanksgiving and it hadn't thawed yet by the time I went to cook it.  My lil' bro and I ended up digging ice out of it and rubbing salt inside trying to get it to thaw quicker.

Also - 3pm conference call??  Boo!  I realized yesterday I'd scheduled myself for two afternoon meetings and quickly fixed that. :-)

  • Bored too.  Stuff to be done at work, but I can't concentrate.  Boss is being an extra heinous biitch today, fun!

Unwrapped Carlos last night (our fresh turkey), rinsed him in water and spent the next half hour trying to figure out how to get the giblets out.  Apparently I was poking around the wrong hole.  DH and I laughed pretty hard, while I tried not to puke as he pulled the sack out.  Oh the joys of our first turkey.  I said eff it to MIL and am still brining our own turkey.  DH and I will eat it on Friday w/ my mom.

Do you know if you google, "cooking my first turkey" it really doesn't answer questions like why are the legs bound, or how to get the giblets out?  I think I washed my hands 17 times last night between handling Carlos and going to the computer to google cooking times :p  But for heaven's sake, that brine smells AMAZING and can't wait to eat dear Carlos.

We have only a 45ish minute drive to DH's parents, so no traffic drama for us, thank goodness.  Although there are extreme blizzard warnings happening in the high country right now and ILs live in the foothills, so we'll see what the weather holds.

  • Brew, I love that you've named your turkey!  Are you sure you can eat him now that you've gotten all personal and named him? :-P

I had my first giblet-getting-out experience last year.  Usually H does that b/c he's a hunter, butchers his deer and doesn't care.  Last year he was out hunting when it came time to prepare the turkey so I was left on my own.  I forced my little brother to do it b/c he "processes" chickens as a job.  We ended up not getting everything and cooked the sack with the turkey's neck inside.  Oopsies.

Ah crap, there might be more in there?  Gross.  We'll just have to cook it too I guess.  Unless I can convice DH to fish around Carlos' cavity.

We name our turkey every year, so I have no problems eating them.  DH said last night "At least Carlos had a good life before he got his head chopped off"  since he's a free range organic turkey.  I hope so :)

  • My boss never tells us we can leave early until like 20 minutes before she lets us go.  We usually get out 60-90 min early.  Either way, I can't leave until 6pm today - because of a stupid busy schedule.  I have to have certain things ready for Monday.  FML.

I'm also crazy bored because I'm mostly baby-sitting equipment.

My deal is that I am going to murder your puppies and piss on your rainbows. -diablesse Lilypie Premature Baby tickers
  • Jeff and I decided to sleep in and have a big breakfast, so now I'm sitting here sipping coffee in my PJs.  Soon I will get in the shower and head to work, but it's going to be a light day.  Only two other people are going to be at work, and I can't stand one of them (which is part of the reason I'm coming in late - he will most certainly leave early).  I can usually ignore him but when the lab is empty/quiet he stands by my desk and tries to make awkward conversation.

  • I'm also here at work, dying of boredom. I'm the only one here because the only other two people in my office are gone for the day already and it is only 10:11 here. BullSh1T! I just want to go home, I don't have anything to cook but I have to do all of our laundry because we both don't know what we are going to wear tomorrow to see our families. Then I found out my grandma is coming to stay with me this weekend, she was going to go back home on friday but decided to stay until Sunday and my dad, brother, H are all going hunting so she's coming to stay with me. So I have to majorly clean the house today.

  • The turkey's in the fridge. I think I'll move him to think sink in around 12.

Brew, I named mine too. Last year was George. This year is Fred even though since he's smaller H thinks we should name him Ron. The George and Fred Harry Potter references were completely coincidental until H mentioned Ron.

I'm pretty sure my call will be really short, so at least thats good.

I love the fact that you named your turkey Carlos.  Hmm...what would I name my 24 lb. turkey?

I'm hear at work.  I hope that we get out early, but that's unlikely.

We'll be having Thanksgiving at my parent's, which is only 10 minutes away and no traffic...yay.

That sounds delightful!  I got to work at 6:45 this morning and I'm ready to punch K in the face if he doesn't come get me soon!!  His department director showed up over there just as he was leaving to come get me, so now I'm stuck longer.............  The torture! :-P

  • Deb-I picked Carlos as an homage to The Hangover.  I usually give big turkeys football player names like Deon, Noshawn, or Jerome.  Carlos is a mere 12 lbs tho :)

  • Brew- you kill me with naming your turkeys! bwahahaha

We are a mere 30 minutes or so by back roads to my aunts so we will leave whenever we get around in the morning. I also have to make a rhubarb pie today and put together our pickle wraps in the morning before we go. I am SO looking forward to relaxing time with the extended family. :)

Hope everyone has a great holiday and have fun shopping if you do it! :)

  • I'm pretty bored, too. I'm researching H's xmas present. I'm posting on "his gift" related forums. A lot of the guys on there think its awesome that a wife is buying her husband this particular present. I'd say what it is, but H stalks the crap out of me and I don't want him to know.
