Hanukkah starts in about one week. I had extra time this morning so I went into Walgreens to buy some Hanukkah cards. They had NONE. Usually any grocery or drug store will have a modest amount buried in the Christmas section somewhere. I got a manager and asked him about it, and his general reaction was "I have no idea why they're not here. Sorry." I even mentioned to him that the situation kind of depressed me and he didn't have any compassion. I mean, geez. He could have at least said "I'm really sorry about that, I can imagine that would be disappointing to you!" But no compassion from that guy, wow.
Idk, it really did depress me

Sure, if you're used to not having to worry about finding cards to celebrate the holidays of your religion or culture, that might seem like a reasonable response. For non-Christians in this country though, being excluded and marginalized is a frustrating fact of life. Of course Lauren could just go to several stores until she finds Hanukkah cards, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't have a right to express her frustration that such a big retailer would choose to ignore the fact that there are nearly 6 million Jews in this country who also happen to shop for greeting cards.
I'm sorry, Lauren. That just seems incredibly bizarre. I often find the greeting card section confounding though. Once I was trying to buy an anniversary card for DH and the store had nothing but cards from third parties wishing the couple a happy anniversary. How does that make any sense? Is there really more of a demand for friends and family to buy anniversary cards for the couple than for the couple to buy them for each other?
Thanks, Kendra. Yeah, my point was what Kendra touched on, that it's pretty crappy for a Walgreens to have zero Hanukkah cards. It's the idea of that. Obviously I know I can go to other stores to find some.

True story. I was meandering through the aisles looking for some new tabletop stuff -- because the 7 other aisles didn't have anything I wanted-- I saw all this blue and white stuff and was confused. Where's Rudolph, dammit?

HAHA! That's how I felt at Walgreens this morning. Everything was red and green, which obviously I'm used to, but I was trying to find that tiny patch of blue for the poor Hanukkah cards. So I was like "where's my blue section, dammit?"

That is so strange! I can't believe they don't carry Hanukkah cards. Who does that?
Maybe they should focus more on that and not put Christmas stuff out before Halloween. Ridiculous!!
I understand your frustration....trust me!! I was at work one day and talking to one of my coworkers and mentioned that H was Jewish and she asked "oh, does he celebrate Hanukkah" and I said, yea, I'm Jewish tooo......and then she asked " So you celebrate Christmas too right?"
There are actually people out there that don't realize that Jews do not celebrate Christmas. I just gave her this confused stare......um, no. Christmas is a Christian holiday. hellloooooo
Those are cute, Nicole, thanks for the ideas. I love etsy! And it's always nice to send original and unique cards. There are only a few different Hanukkah cards at the local grocery/drug stores, so often I feel like whoever I'm sending some too will probably get a bunch more of the same one I send

Aly- Isn't being Jewish fun? Haha...
My BIL is Jewish so we've done Jewish Christmas a couple of times in his honor- Chinese food and the movies.
