Poll: recommend your city

Dh and I have left over vouchers from our canceled Nola trip earlier this year. We have to use them by the middle of February. We got cheap tickets and the new flight has to be cheap too. We have one with American and one with Airtran so they must both fly from BWI to the city. Where should we go? We're getting a new roof next week and just got back from vacation so we don't want to spend a lot.

Re: Poll: recommend your city

  • I would try to recommend somewhere in SoCal... but I seriously always think when people come here they must be disappointed. I mean, there are way prettier beaches elsewhere, and Hollywood is dirty.

My IL's have always talked up New Mexico. They went to Taos, NM a few years ago & loved it and always talk about wanting to go back. The way they talk about it has actually made me really, really want to visit someday soon also.

  • Even though I hate living in Memphis, it's actually not a bad place to visit.  There are some fantastic museums and a lot of music history here.  There's also AMAZING food and in general things are pretty cheap here.

I'd also say that Chicago is a fantastic place to visit but it can get pretty pricey depending on what you guys are looking to do.

  • It's not my city (because you could always drive to my city!) but Chicago is always fun.  It will be cold though between now and Feb.  A flight to FL would probably be fairly cheap and it will still be warmer there.

Chicago, yes!  But February weather here is cold and slushy and blek. Spring/summer/fall is awesome here!

    Somehwere warm...Austin, TX...Savannah, GA...

  • What about Vegas or the Grand Canyon?  The weather will be nice in February in Vegas and you can probably get a good package deal.  Or maybe a Disney trip?  We got a room in a hotel right across from Disneyland for just $99/night and you can get park hopper tickets pretty cheap.
  • I was thinking Chicago or Boston but don't know if we feel like dealing with the cold. I'd like to go somewhere new so Vegas and pretty much anywhere in Florida is out. I like the idea of Savannah or Austin. It'll be too short a trip to travel across the country (in my opinion) so the west coast is out too. Keep the ideas coming!

I've never been to Austin but it is definitely on my list of places to go.  I've been to Savannah twice and loved it both times!  It's very charming, lots of good food and drinks, by the water, nice people.

  • I am a Savannah, Ga girl. It was 76 degrees today and beautiful. I think this is a beautiful and romantic city. The list of different food options and prices is huge. There is so much to do downtown and we have a fun nightlife if that is what you want. Every first Saturday of the month we have a craft market set up on the River which I love to go window shop at. Hilton Head Island is only 30-45 min from us so if that is also on your to see list it is quite close.  There only difficulty might be direct flights in, we don't service every airline.

  • I want to second (or third?) Austin!  DH and I went there for the SXSW music festival which is in March every year, and I actually got a sunburn!  So I'm guessing February would be nice too.  It has such a fun downtown and the bar/live music scene is incredible.

Oh, another place that I've wanted to go back to is San Antonio, which is like an hour from Austin.  I went in high school and knew I had to go back to the River Walk once I was old enough to drink.  :)

Austin is an awesome city, but the weather can be hit or miss.  You may luck out and get warm weather, but the weather is funny there and they might have an ice storm that will just about shut down the city.  The icy days are pretty few and far between, but they can happen.

It's a very crunch city, but it can be so much fun!

  • Boston is great, and always worth a visit, but if it were me, I'd hold off until Spring.  It is pretty cold, and you generally do a lot of walking there.  I visited Austin a few years ago, and loved it.  I would go back there any time.

  • I'm now voting for Savannah! Stick out tongue
