Bored? Dress me!

I'm wearing this dress tomorrow:

I may add a wide black belt, not sure - the skinny one that came with it (2nd pic above) looks super cheap in person.  Anyway, I can wear the boots shown there, or my fave heels (pics below)

I don't like the solid black tights with the black boots or heels, but I was desperate.  I have more options now, and I'm not sure which are better.

I have solid ivory tights (I know Alicia hates this idea), patterned ivory tights, and sweater-knit black tights (pictures of the ivory below).  I think the knit breaks up the black enough that the shoes won't blend in, which was my issue before.  I also have gray sweater tights, but I don't think that would work.

so the question is - boots or pumps?  patterned ivory or knit black tights? Other?

Edit: OMG I need to resize, hold on.

  • Wide belt, black leggings, and boots.

     BTW...I love the dress.

  • I'm a belt girl, so I like the idea of a wide, black belt.

I, too, am anti-ivory tights. I like the idea of gray sweater tights with it though. If you really don't like that, then I'd say go for the knit black ones.

As for shoes, I have a personal vendetta against wearing tights/socks with peep toe shoes, otherwise I would say the heels. But I'm going to say boots with gray tights.

I'm really liking the idea of a belt. It adds interest.

  • wide belt, black tights and pumps.
  • I know that there's a lot of debate about tights/leggings with peep toes, but my feeling is that if you tuck the seam under your foot so that it doesn't show, it's fine.  I know not everyone agrees (it comes up on F&B often) but that's MHO.

I haven't worn the gray tights yet, so I'm unsure if they'll look right with the red.  But I'll try it out.

I do have a pair of non-peep-toe black heels:

I'm sort of torn because I love the boots and rarely get a chance to wear them, but I'm just not sure how they work with the outfit.

  • Im just really not a boot fan. I didn't notice your original shoes were peep toes. Go with the closed toe ones.

  • I think it would look great, but if you're unsure I would go with the pumps and not the peep toe.

  • Totally against the grain: wide black belt, ivory pattern tights and black boots.  I personally hate the black tights and black shoes (whether boots or pumps).  It's too much black on the trunk.  Also despise peep toe w/ tights, sorry :/

I think the visual interest w/ the 3 colors is better than all black or all dark (ie grey) trunk.

I always have to wear dark bottoms.  Too much junk in the trunk and thunder thighs...sigh.

  • FWIW, I am currently wearing a gray dress (with a black belt), black leggings and black boots. I normally wear patterned tights witht his ensemble, but I ripped them the last time I wore them. So I don't think black boots with black tights would be awful. I just think black boots and gray tights are better.

Wearing black tights with black boots make your legs look longer.

  • If I did black tights, it would definitely be the knit/patterned ones. It may depend on the tights, but the solid ones I have just don't work with black shoes/boots for me personally.  You can't tell where the shoe ends and the tights begin and I just really don't like it.  It's not quite as bad with boots as it is with heels, but I'm just not a fan, even though I wore it.

I don't know if this makes a difference, but I'm wearing this to a restaurant with Jeff (that's what our Thanksgiving plans are) not to someone's house for a big family affair.

ETA: I forgot to mention before, but I don't like my solid ivory tights in retrospect.  I was hoping, however, that the pattern might break it up and mitigate some of the issue.

That's why I voted ivory tights.  I like the boots being their own focal point, not just blending with the tights

  • Great minds, Brew.  I am starting to think we were separated at birth.
