Anyone been to Ireland?

Nick has to go to Belfast in January, right around my b-day so we are thinking of making it a b-day trip. But I have no clue what to do/see. We are also thinking of splitting the time between Belfast and some place else since surprisingly Belfast does not have any Marriotts (we only stay at Marriotts since we have a butt load of points and never pay for a room).

yeah so suggestions?

Re: Anyone been to Ireland?

  • I have never been, but my cousin studied abroad in Ireland (specifically Cork, in south Ireland, was where her family was that she stayed with).  I'll see if she knows of good places in Belfast and cities not too far from there.  Do you know what city your hotel would be in?
  • Aleesh that is so amazing, good for you guys! I am so jealous. Never been, always wanted to go I am sure you will find some amazing places to go.

  • I was only in Ireland for a weekend while I was in London, but I loved it! I want to go back so much. We were mostly around Dublin and then went out to County Kerry. It's awesome. I'm not sure what to recommend for the area you'll be in.

  • Thanks T! I'd appreciate anything!

Brie - I was looking at the Marriott website and it looks like the only Marriott in Ireland is in Dublin, so any rec's are greatly appreciated =)

I'm pretty excited. I've always wanted to see Ireland =) Actually I pretty much want to see everywhere lol

  • I just wanted to say definitely report back after the trip and tell me how it is.

DH and I are going to Ireland and London this summer.  He has family there, and I have never been out of the US.  Don't even have a passport.

DH's family is in the Cork area of Ireland.  Why don't you try Dublin?  I'd think if anywhere had a Marriott, they would.

  • I've been to Ireland twice while studying abroad. I went to Dublin to visit friends for St. Patricks Day which was an experience. I went back the following month with my sister and BIL and we drove all over the western side. Dublin was nice, but the true Ireland is the countryside. However, there is plenty to see in Dublin, the churches, the Guiness Factory, going to pubs, maybe a castle or two. Belfast is Northern Ireland so it is part of the UK so it might be different up there. I'm sure you could do a couple day trips from Dublin. Your Marriott dilemm is the exact reason DH and I haven't gone together since he only stays at Marriotts. Wow, that is a bunch of rambling.
