Let's Talk Black Friday...

OK, 99% of the time I avoid shopping on Black Friday.  I do not do well with crowds and I hate battling people for things.  But I just saw a commercial that Old Navy is giving away the Kinect game that Cody wants if you spend $25.  I've been eyeing a jacket there and just learned it's going to be 50% off on Black Friday so I figured I'd venture out at midnight, pick up my jacket and the game, and call it a day.

But then I figured that since I'll be out anyway, I may as well see what other deals are out there.  So, ladies... what Black Friday sales are you going to this year?

Re: Let's Talk Black Friday...

  • I've never been shopping on BF but I'm considering doing some mid-night shopping. I could never get up at 4am but I can stay up all night. I need to come up with a game plan. But this all depends on how much wine I drink during the day and that is dependent on how much my ILs annoy me.

I'm sorry I know this is actually not funny... but it totally made me LOL.

I've never done BF and now that they have Cyber Monday I never intend to. There's literally not one single deal that could entice me to go out (or stay out) at all hours of the wee morning and deal with ravenous crowds. Not happening.

  • I usually avoid it now too.  But this year I need a new laptop.  I'm going back to school in January and DH uses ours for work some days.  So it will just be easier if I have my own again.  I will only be using it for papers, presentations and internet, so I'm just looking for a cheapy, no need to go all out when we have a nice one already.  Office Depot and Staples also have the Word/Excel/PP bundle for $70 if you buy from them so I think we'll get one from either of those places.

DH wants a few things from Lowe's I think. So I'll probably pull an all nighter since it will be easier then trying to get up at 2am. We'll try and get a laptop, go to Lowes and maybe Target or Old Navy.  Then we'll sleep all day.

    This 100%

  • I avoid BF at all costs. I hate crowds and saving a few extra bucks in exchange for sanity and precious sleep is just not worth it to to me.
  • Normally I don't go; however, this year DH and I are making it an adventure.  I'm going to throw him out of the truck in front of WalMart and he's going to run in and snag a t.v.  I figure he's large enough to tackle a few crazies if he needs to.
  • I'm the same way with crowds, but a couple of years ago I convinced DH to go out with me, there was a great deal on a TV and some other things since we would be out, and I planned out where we were going, what was there, and in what order we were going and prepared myself for hours in line, crowds and craziness.  I was suprised, I went to 3 stores, and was done in an hour where I had expected to spend the entire afternoon shopping.

I keep meaning to go back out to see if it was a fluke, but i'm always working on black friday now.... but DH goes out, always says it's not as bad as people think it is.

  • I worked in retail for 14 years, so I will probably never go shopping on Black Friday. Although I have to say I so appreciate not working in the mall in anymore!

  • I have always gone.  BFF and I meet at 4:00...wait on line at Target, get stuff there, and go on from there, and I'm usually home by 9:00 wrapping and decorating.

This is the first time in 5 years I won't be going.  Since we moved 2 hours away... not to mention the only store need me is Tractor Supply and while they are having some really good deals on BF... I think I'll refrain.

  • I have done BF for the past 3 years now. I have worked night shift for years now son the being up early is not a big deal. I started going because my daughter thinks its a blast to be up shopping that early so I humor her. We usually plan to meet some of my night shift buddies, shop, go have breakfast at our fav spot and I'm home no later than 10-11am.
  • I only went once to WalMart about 7 years ago for no real reason, but to see it - I did pick up a $5 coffee maker and mini chopper, but it was hysterical to see.

If anyone is going to a WalMart, try to find a 24 hour one.  Since they are open, they let you in and you don't have to stand in line outside to get it.  It was a Super WalMart and they had all the big sale items randomly throughout the store covered with a sheet - some in the food section, some in random parts of the other part of the store, etc.  Each pile of stuff was guarded by a WalMart employee and people stood around the pile, with their hand on one of the boxes.  At 6am, there was an overhead announcement to basically unveil the specials, and people grabbed the boxes they had already "called".  It was hysterical!

Oh man... that's almost worth it!  We're actually going to WalMart after Old Navy because it's 24 hours and they are having all sales EXCEPT the electronic ones going on starting at midnight there.  I don't want any of the electronics so I can pick up a few things I need and either get out before the crazies come or stick around and watch it unfold.
