Goldie *or anyone else* - I have a stupid @ question

Hey congrats again on your future bundle of Republican joy!

I wanted to ask you my stupid question because I know you've had some fertility related challenges as well.  Do you think that non pregnancy friendly exercise would be an issue during the 2 WW?  I feel as though at this point I need to be extra cautious, but don't want to be over the top either.

  • Do you mean can you keep up your normal exercise routine during the 2ww?  Yes, you can.  I was running, lifting weights and taking classes during the first weeks of my pregnancy.  When I got my BFP, I still continued exercising, I just modified my weight routine to avoid pressure on my abdomen.

    Yep, that's the part that I was particularly wondering about.  Weights and pilates are the only things that I'm thinking I'd need to modify or eliminate from my exercise routine if I got pregnant.  Just wondering if I should do so now (during the 2WW) to be on the safe side. 

    Disclaimer:  I am usually not one to think anything is off limits before you actually get a positive test, but feel like I'm running out of time to make this happen, and don't want to take any chances.

    Because we had some fertility issues, I always say to err on the side of caution when it's possible that you might be pregnant.  So, anything you wouldn't do while pregnant, don't do now.  That's my neurotic side talking.

    Get overheated - that is pretty important.   Too much pressure on abdomen as mentioned.

    It may have no impact, at all, but it's more for the sake of why give yourself any reason to question yourself, you know?

    So warm baths okay?

  • Does overheated = sweating? Cuz that's what happens whenever I exercise, even at something easier like yoga.

    Sorry I'm such a dingdong. I'll read pg books when it gets that time. : )

  • Warm baths are okay.  Warm showers, even hot showers are fine.

    Soaking in hot water you have to be careful of because you don't want to raise your core temperature up too high. 

    Same idea with exercising.  A little sweat, a little glow - that's fine.  But you can feel when your temp really starts to rise.

  • FWIW, I've been through IVF 4 times at two clinics - both REs said that moderate exercise is perfectly fine most times - overheating and extreme weight bearing exercise should probably be avoided.

    It wasn't until actually doing IVF that I had to limit activity, and that was because my ovaries were swollen to literally 10x the normal size. For standard TTC you should be fine :) GL!

  • I think hot showers = OK, moderate exercise = OK, long hot baths/saunas = not so much.  When your core body temp becomes elevated I think that's the problem.

  • in yoga there are certain positions you can't do or have to modify but you would have to look into those specifically.

    Crazy Mental Picture Alert: When your belly grows, your abdominal muscles split in half to compensate.So there are 2 on the right and 2 on the left as opposed to 4 down the middle. The middle of your baby bump is just your skin and your uterus directly underneath. This stretches and stresses your abdominals ALOT  - so you really shouldn't do any abdominal excersizing when you feel this change (depending on when you start to grown in this way) or else you will be hella sore for a while afterwards.
