Speaking of thanksgiving food...
... do you do a turkey at Christmas too?
Re: Speaking of thanksgiving food...
growing up we had ham... since I don't eat that anymore, my dad's gf makes a turkey (which I still don't eat since its most likely a butterball)...

Yes, at extended family Christmas a few days before Christmas, at ILs ON Christmas and then on New Years Day at my Dad's.
Neither of our families makes turkey on Christmas. We make traditional Mexican food. My family makes tamales, tons and tons of them.
DH's mom cooks 7 different dishes for some reason I can't remember. I think it has a biblical meaning. She usually makes flautas, enchiladas, chilles rellenos, fried shrimp, rice, beans, and tamales. I love going to their house for Christmas.
We do turkey at Christmas and Thanksgiving (but totally different accompaniments) and a torti?re on Christmas Eve. If you've never had it, torti?re is this totally awesome meat pie that's traditional in Quebec. My Dad's side always had it, so we've continued the tradition.
My in-laws do either a roast beef or duck or goose. Never turkey.

We do tortiere on Christmas Eve as well! It's funny, because when my parents moved from the US to Newfoundland umpteen years ago, they wanted to start a new "Canadian" holiday tradition, so this is what they did, being completely naive about how different/separate French Canada really is. But it's stuck for almost 40 years now, and we love it.

There must be something to the 7, because we've been to DH's cousin for Christmas Eve before, and they do the Feast of the Seven Fishes, where they do seven different seafood dishes. Yummy.
