Anyone else prepping today for Thanksgiving dinner?
What have you done so far, and what's left?
I started at 10am, and am just now taking a break. So far I have made:
Sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole (from scratch), noodles (8 batches!), and Im halfway done making my pumpkin roll.
Next up are pies! I still have to make pecan pies and an apple pie.
Re: Im already exhausted!
me! I feel like i'm in a cooking marathon! haha
We got out of work early. hooray! I started around 2:30. I've made the following..all from scratch and for the first time, which has been really fun!
Cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole (a cooking light recipe! my new gig! hehe), honey butter, a ham, and now I'm making cornbread for my dressing. SIL came over for a couple of hours, so I had a little break
I may make a pumpkin roll tonight too.
Tomorrow I'm making mashed potatoes, white peas, fried okra, roasted carrots and macaroni and cheese.
I'm using the yeast rolls I made last week. We've been eating them for dinner. We just pop it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds and they're just as delicious as fresh out the oven. I figured I'd save myself one little step since I have 20 already in the freezer.
SIL and her fam (our only guests) are bringing the turkey. They have a smoker. She's also bringing a chocolate cake. yummm
Kel, which green bean casserole recipe did you use? I used this one...

she uses the french's onions. I could've fried those up myself, but I figured I'd save myself the tears and oil.
I hope it all tastes ok. if it goes over well I may volunteer to host every year. this is loads of fun!

I used this recipe (except Im going to top it with the frenchs onions- and not use the topping she has in the recipe. I also added 3 teaspoons of low sodium soy sauce, and omitted the salt in the recipe).
It has been a lot of fun
And, a lot of work! I still have pecan pies to make, I slacked off around dinner time LOL! Hope your first Thanksgiving dinner turns out awesome
Wow! You girls are working hard! I'm sure everything will be tasting fantastic today!
We are having Thanksgiving at my grandma's, and all I have to make is scalloped potatoes (from the boxes
). I also bought a pecan pie. My dad is cooking the turkey and everyone pitches in and brings sides, so no one has to do a huge meal by themselves. I can't wait to eat! lol
