Have you ever...

Started new?

Meaning moved, got a new job, made new friends, tried different things?  Have you ever had anything happen in your life where you just wanted to live your life a day at a time, and make your life exciting?

I'll explain more in a little bit.

Re: Have you ever...

  • Yes, about 5 years ago.

I had graduated college a few months earlier and was still living with my parents.  I had 2 younger sisters who I helped raise and nearly everything I did was for them.  I worked 3 jobs because the main employers are retail, restaurants, etc in my hometown.  Nothing in my life was for me if that makes any sense.

So I decided to move to the Twin Cities where I only knew a handful of people.  I was not able to transfer with my job at the time so I quit and found a new one.  That job didn't work out but I did meet DH there so it wasn't all bad Wink

My family has says that I've changed since moving down here.  I'm not sure they like all of the changes but they were necessary.  I spent too many years living for others and ignoring what I wanted.  I would say that I am a lot stronger now.  We are going to try to move closer to home in the spring but it is because it is what we want to do, not because of anyone else so we are excited.

  • Yes.

Just since I reconnected with DH I've done it twice.  Once in a move from MA to VA where I moved from all I'd ever known on a hunch that DH might be The One.  Got a new job, knew nobody but him down there, was a completely different region of the country, etc.

Did it again this past fall when we moved across the country (VA to CA).

Back in college and soon after I did more of the living to make life exciting.  Summered on a glacier in Alaska, traveled some on kind of a whim.  Had some experiences I'll never forget for sure.

    What's up?

  • I'm doing it right now. I took a leave of absence from my job and moved to Germany.  I have 2 friends that live here and of course my dad.  I am slowly starting to meet new people, but it's hard.  Thankfully most of my dad's friends can speak English so I don't get so lonely.
  • I feel very blah right now, like, so over my life and my day in and day out routines.  With the passing of my father, I don't have much family that I am close with.  I've been at the same job for 5 years.

I would just like to change things up; but I'm having a hard time figuring out if that is the answer.

Just a case of the blahs I guess.

  • Yes.  I think I have mentioned this before here, but I was married before.  We got divorced after being married for 6 years.  Long story.  Anyway, after getting out of that, I met Josh and he lived 300 miles away.  I decided to move to IN from WI to be with him after only a few months of dating.  I sold all of my furniture, picked up, and moved.  I got a new job, new friends, new apt, new car, new everything.  Definitely life changing.  Its crazy if I look at where I was 5 years ago to where I am now.  So much in a better place.  Sometimes I really miss home, especially now with the baby, but the good news is that home is drivable- its about a 5.5 or 6 hour drive.

  • Philly, sorry you're feeling like this. I have picked up and moved away from everything and everybody several times in my life. I'm from AL originally, went to college in NJ where I didn't know anybody (but I guess that doesn't really count since it was college), studied abroad in England for a semester in college where I didn't know anybody, moved to NY after college (for a job) where I only knew a handful of people from college, moved to CA because I hated NY job and decided to go back to school and didn't know anyone there, moved to DC because I applied to PhD programs closer to my long-distance bf at the time and got into one there, then moved to IL (with DH, though we weren't engaged at the time) to complete an internship and ended up staying here.

At this point in my life, I want to be in one place, but at the same time I'm itching to get out of this small town and find a job I absolutely love. Honestly, a lot of my moves were caused by a general feeling of unhappiness with where I was. Not sure if the moves ever helped alleviate those feelings, but they definitely made me feel like I can live anywhere.
