Hello, this is my first post over here on G&T. I'm looking into asking for an Ipad 32 GB for Christmas.
This would be used as my "main" computer for blogging, surfing, uploading and minor editing of photos. We do have two other computers in the house for backup. Would recommend an Ipad to me?
I'm looking for recommendations, dislikes, etc.
TY

Re: Ipad Users
HI. I have the 32G WiFi iPad and have been fairly happy with that. It's been great for surfing the web. As far as blogging I would recommend getting the Keyboard dock, I think it would make blogging a lot faster than on the touch screen. I've found that if I'm going to be typing more than a paragraph or two I put mine on the keyboard. I can't help you on the editing of photos *haven't tried that yet) but the camera connection kit is Super fast.
It isn't a lot of help but it is a start for you.

You can do all that stuff with an iPad, and more.
The dock keyboard is a bulky shape and not suited to carrying around, so I'd probably get the bluetooth wireless keyboard Apple sells or (for more portability) one of the bluetooth keyboard cases out there (one example - http://www.zagg.com/accessories/zaggmate.php) if you plan to do a lot of typing. I can type pretty quickly in portrait mode on the iPad's screen, but the keyboard is less prone to error.
If this will be your "main" computer, I might bump up the memory to the 64GB model. But that depends on what you're using it for; music and video especially (movies from iTunes, not YouTube video) will eat up the memory, so if you plan to keep all your media on there, it might get snug for apps and other storage. I have the 16GB one and only load movies on the iPad when I'm traveling, and I have to move some things around to get more than one movie on it. But if you'll use the other computers for media storage or you don't have a huge music collection, 32GB should be plenty.
There's also rumors a new iPad is coming out in Q1. Total grain of salt moment, but if you need to be super-cutting edge, it might be worth the wait.

Thank you so much for the suggestions ladies! I didn't think about the keyboard, that probably would come in handy for blogging.
@julia Yea, I'm still trying to decide between the 32 and 64. I know I would do movies on it but we also have a terabyte drive we keep all of our "extra" media on. I could always xfer movies over once we are done watching them.
Thanks again for the input I really appreciate it.
I absolutely love my iPad, and wouldn't give it up for the world! But I have to admit that I'm having trouble using it for blogging.
This depends a lot on your blogging platform, but I have a self-hosted WordPress blog, and I'm still having problems with the WordPress app. I'm definitely not the only one, based on the app reviews, and I've spent a bit of time troubleshooting by reading the support blogs, fiddling with directory settings on my host site, etc. Still no luck. That means I can blog through the web interface, but I don't have too much functionality, and I can't post any images.
I do use it a ton for surfing, but I find posting on the Nest from the iPad to be a huge PITA. Anni has claimed that they're working on it, but I haven't seen any progress yet.
In general, I love it for surfing, e-reading (I never thought I'd like having an e-reader, but it's great), and silly games when I have a few minutes to kill. I really love it for travel, because I only need one device and I have a netbook, an e-reader with a whole library of books, videos, photo backup storage, and games all in one.
I would definitely recommend it (and very highly), but I'm not convinced that it's a complete laptop replacement quite yet.
ETA - This inspired me to spend another hour searching the WP support forums, updating, and re-installing. It seems I did finally get a post (with photo) posted to my blog! It still seems a bit unstable, but at least it's working!!!
I too love my ipad. Although I cannot get this site to work for some reason (any help??? I can see it but can't type in a reply!) my input is that the wireless keyboard is the way to go. only problem is that i haven't found a case to fit the ipad and keyboard. We also have a laptop but i work from home a lot and my work remote access works much better on here.
LOL, good timing!
