Thanksgiving Poll

1) Are you traveling?

2) What are your Turkey Day Plans?

3) Hunting for anything specific on Black Friday, or are you set on going anywhere specific?

Whatever your plans, have a very happy Thanksgiving, and be safe!

Re: Thanksgiving Poll

  • 1) We will be driving up to my parents tomorrow morning (90 min) drive.  Heartbreaking, because we have to board Pugsly since my parents won't have a dog in the house.  I went for the "nice" boarding place which gives each dog a little room instead of a wire cage... but I'm still bummed about it.  LoL, Gary has to be the one to take her.  I wouldn't be able to do it.

    2) Eating, eating, and lots of eating.  T-Day will be with my parents, my sister and her family.  I would imagine I will be tuning out football at some point during the day and organizing my Black Friday battle plans with my sister.

    3) I think my sister and I are going to tackle Toys 'R Us.  God help us.

  • 1) We did our traveling yesterday.  We are now in GA with DH's family.  We had to leave our furbabies behind, too, but at least they can stay with my family while we're away.  Poor things were terrified when we dropped them off.

    2) Same, eating.  MIL shares the same affinity for pumpkin I do, so I'm excited.  MIL and SIL both want knitting lessons while I'm down here, so that'll give us something to do after the boys get sucked into football.

    3) Since we don't want to have to fly with our purchases, I will probably only be looking online.  I really want some nice Christmas decorations since we didn't put any up last year.

  • 1. My MIL lives 11 houses down from ours so we will be walking down there in the evening.

    2. The hubs is deep frying a turkey (he does every year) and I am making wild rice, goat cheese and breakfast sausage stuffing.

    3. Since I have my girl now, there will be no shopping for me this year.  Maybe I will resume the tradition next year.  I do plan on participating in cyber monday though.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you ladies and your families!

Is this one recipe or two separate things?  If it's one recipe, do you think you could share?  Sounds yummy!

  • 1.  Not very far...just to DH's grandparents' house, they only live 20 minutes away.

    2.  I can't wait to watch the Macy's Parade!! I love it!!  DH's grandparents & his whole family have a massive traditional T-Day dinner early in the day...  then we'll meet up with my family for dessert.

    3.  I've got a list of stuff to look into, but I'll be at work, so I'll be browsing online.  Smile

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

    One recipe.  It's Bobby Flay's:

2 cups wild rice6 cups water3/4 pound breakfast sausage or chorizo1 to 2 boxes of Stove Top Stuffing (Bobby Flay makes his stuffing from scratch, but I cheat and use stove top)12 ounces goat cheese1/2 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, choppedFreshly ground black pepperKosher saltDirectionsPreheat the oven to 375 degrees F.Cook rice, sausage and stuffing each separately. Combine all with goat cheese.  Salt and pepper to taste.Transfer the mixture to a large buttered baking dish and bake, uncovered, until heated through and golden brown, about 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let rest 10 minutes before serving.  Garnish with parsley.

  • 1. We're driving down Louisville tomorrow (about a 2 hour jaunt).

    2. Our Tday started last night.  I made our noodles for Thursday; plus, I made two pumpkin gooey butter cakes for a homeless shelter meal for tomorrow.  Tonight we're volunteering at the shelter's meal location to help with last minute baking prep, organizing, and cleaning.  Tomorrow we'll eat and hang out.

    3. I don't know if we'll actually venture out on Friday.  I'm torn.  Saturday, though, my mom and I are going to see the Nutcracker.  Very exciting!  Also, DH has made plans for us to have brunch on Sunday at a local tapas bar--their French toast is to die for.

  • 1.) Our traveling consists of a 10 min drive to my parents then an 10 min drive to DH's sisters house.

2.) We will be eating dinner at my parents house and then eating dessert at DH's sisters house.

3.) We are looking for any one thing, but we enjoy going and looking to see what they have on sale and if we need it we buy it. Oh and from one ad I saw online Walgreens has batteries buy 1 get 3 free. I will be buying tons of those if its true.

  • 1. We are not traveling this year, this will be my first year cooking at home. My family is on their way up right now to spend the weekend with us. I am very excited since I have not seen them in almost a year (we live 12hrs away) and they have never been to our home.

    2. Cooking then eating!

    3. I REALLY hate black Friday shopping but my mom lives for it. So she will be dragging me out in the cold at ungodly hours. I have a list of what I want to get everyone this year and if I see anything on that list on sale while we are out, I'll get it. Otherwise, I am just along for the ride.

     HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

  • 1) Are you traveling?

Yes, we are going to northern IL, where DH is from, to see his parents/family who all still live there.  It's usually about a 4 hour drive for us, but with the rain we're having right now and the usual Thanksgiving traffic, who knows what it'll be tonight.  I'm not looking forward to the drive. :(

    2) What are your Turkey Day Plans?

Since DH works retail, he doesn't usually get off on Black Friday, so we usually don't see his family for Thanksgiving.  So, this will be my 1st Thanksgiving with his family!  Aparently, they have an annual tradition of playing football (he has a huge family) and they call it "The Toast Bowl."  At the very least, this should be entertaining.  It's going to be freezing up there too, so I'm hoping the game doesn't last too long!

If we were with my family, I would be watching the Macy's parade and the dog show, but I have them set to record at home. :)

    3) Hunting for anything specific on Black Friday, or are you set on going anywhere specific?

No, I refuse to do Black Friday.  I've been calling off the gifts (you don't get me anything, I won't get you anything) with all of my family for the last couple of weeks so I don't have many things to get.  I usually get everything online anyway.  I can't handle crowds and stupid people.

  • 1.  We're heading out tonight to spend the weekend at my folks' cabin with my nuclear fam.  Should be a fun time. Only an hour and 45 minutes to drive but we're supposed to get a "wintry mix" storm which means icy roads.  blech.  Good news is that once we get up there, we don't have to leave for a few days!

    2.  Thanksgiving for 7 at the lake.  Such a fun time.  Last time we did this (2 years ago because we alternate years with families) Hubs and I were very very newly engaged.

    3.  I worked retail for far too many years to even want to go in the vicinity of shopping on black friday.  This year, we'll be hanging at home, maybe making a trek another hour or so to a movie theater to see Harry Potter.  Saturday, we're going skiing if the weather improves.

Forgot about that!  We will see HP as well.

  • 1) Not very far, just to my parents' house, who live about 45 minutes away.

    2) Just eating lots of good home-cooking, helping my mom in the kitchen, and catching up with family I don't get to see too often. We're having a pretty big gathering- about 25 people, so that should be fun. DH and I may go bowling Thanksgiving night after dinner winds down though. We used to go every year, as the bowling alley in the town we grew up in was the only place open that night, but haven't in a while. But since we're down there ... we shall see.

    3) Not really. I like to go to Michael's in the afternoon, and browse through the Christmas decor, wrapping paper, and such, but you won't see me up at 4 AM. And DH and I have a date to see Harry Potter that night as well, lol! So excited Big Smile

  • 1 - No, we're staying local.  My parents live less than a mile from us so we go there.

2 - Spending the day helping my mom cook and then having dinner w/ my family.

3 - I know we need a few smaller things for our niece and some of our nephews, but I need to look at the ads on Thanksgiving to see for sure where I'm headed.

    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!

  • 1. Nope! Having both sets of parents locally can be a blessing...

    2. ... it can also be a curse. We're having dinner with my parents at 3 then  dashing across town to have dessert with his parents. No relaxing for us!

    3. Absolutely nothing! I'm pretty much done holiday shopping (thank you, Amazon) and the few things I need yet I'm not braving the masses on Black Friday to get! My sister and I are going to see Harry Potter instead Big Smile

    1) Are you traveling? Just to the east bay

    2) What are your Turkey Day Plans?we are having dinner with SIL and her family, and FIL and his wife are driving up from Santa Fe! Should be a packed house. I am making asparagus with lemon tarragon sauce, smoky baked mac n cheese, candied sweet potatoes, and bringing crescent rolls and the obligatory canned cranberry sauce. Just wouldn't be turkey day without it! :)

    3) Hunting for anything specific on Black Friday, or are you set on going anywhere specific?I plan to be purchasing a 10 foot live Christmas tree and haning out with some visiting Brooklyn friends. I'll be doing all my shopping from the comfort of my home on cyber Monday!

Whatever your plans, have a very happy Thanksgiving, and be safe! You to sweets!
