WTH?

Why the hell can't I sleep on my stomach? It's so freaking uncomfortable.

Is this going to be like this for the full 9 months? I'm 8 freakin weeks for petes sake!

Do women with naturally big bewbies have trouble sleeping on their stomachs?

I woke up DH and asked about his ex (she had HUGE implants), he said she couldn't sleep on her stomach.

This is total crap.

Re: WTH?

  • Your only a few days behind me? I didn't realize that. (I'm about 8w5d).

Anyways, yeah, it gets uncomfortable. Luckily I typically sleep on my side anyways... I hope you're able to find a comfortable position to sleep in.

  • Wait, now I'm confused. I'm a week behind you I believe. I'm 7wks 5 days I think.

I'm never precise with things like this. I'll know more when I go to the doctor on Monday.

  • Oh! Good luck at your appt!

I o'd late, so my due date was redated a week later (7/1 instead of 6/24).

I'm actually pretty happy I have made it to nearly 9 weeks in my own jeans still (albeit, some are tighter than others). I'm hoping I can do 2-3 more weeks in them before I have to buy stuff....

  • Not sleeping on my stomach was the worst part. I actually ended up sleeping on my side facing down for as long as I could. My boobs weren't on the bed but my stomach was for the most part. Does that make sense?

  • I'm really lucky so far with clothes. My sizes fluctuate between 6 - 10 depending on how lazy I can be at any given time. I was a tight 6 when I found out I was pregnant, so I've still got a few weeks left in my own clothes.

Never thought fluctuating sizes would benefit me at some point in time.

  • I normally sleep on my side, but I've noticed the girls are uncomfortable no matter how I lay. I think I'm going to start sleeping in a sports bra.

I've always slept in a sports bra

  • Yea, I hated that I couldn't sleep on my stomach. I would always sleep on my side. Some nights were more comfortable than other nights.

  • Just wait-it gets even worse.  Sleeping on your back and side start feeling even worse...

AND I still have 14 weeks to go.  I used to fall to sleep right away.  Now I'm considering knocking myself out with a hammer to get to sleep.  But I will say this is my biggest complaint about being pregnant and I'll take it after hearing how some peoples pregnancies go!

  • I still sleep on my stomach, with one leg out to the side. It keeps me from being fully on my stomach.

It's just now getting hard for me to sleep that way, it's starting to hurt. lol

Sleeping on my back is a negative, it hurts soooo bad, and you're not really supposed to sleep on your back after 16 - 20 weeks. Something bad lack of oxygen to baby??? I always find myself sleeping on my back in the middle of the night though .... wake up and turn on my side. hah

  • You ladies are scaring me. My sleep is my temple. I was hoping you'd come on and post that it's only a 1st Tri phase and it would pass.

  • Also, at this point in my pregnancy, I don't even call what I do as sleeping. hah My hips are starting to hurt so damn bad I can't get comfortable and I'm tossing and turning all night. It sucks balls.
  • Am I the only person on the planet who naturally sleeps on my side?

    No, I do.

I do typically sleep on my side as well, but I've noticed that my sides have been falling asleep and it actually becomes painful.  UGH!

Seriously? This is all too bizarre for me.

Holy crow, that sucks.  So... if you can't sleep on your stomach, back, or side... how the hell do you sleep?

  • I start on my stomach and end on my side, so something to look forward to.

    Take drugs!! Smile

I did a semi-side/semi-tummy sleep for a long time. I used a body pillow to sort of prop myself up. The first night home from the hospital, I slept on my tummy again. I slept for 3 hours straight, which was the longest I'd slept at one time since around 20 weeks. It was awesome.

Can you do that when you're pregnant?  It doesn't hurt the fetus?

Some are safe, some aren't. I took Unisom.

I've heard that Unisom is safe for pregnant women, I think I'll be buying some soon. What about Tylenol PM too? I would think it would be safe since regular Tylenol is ok.

It should be because it's acetaminophen and diphenhydramine, which are both safe for pregnant women.

  • Oh, wow, I'm glad for that on behalf of all you pregnant women and moms!
  • i just wanted to add that i'm in the non-sleeping group, too :( but i was a back sleeper. now i just toss and turn from one side to the other. i did get my sis's snoogle (pregnancy pillow) this weekend. just need to wash the cover and i'm really hoping this pillow helps me sleep!
  • We have a tempurpedic topper on our bed.  I'm a tummy sleeper and it makes it comfy to sleep on my tummy with big bewbies. :) I also was able to sleep in a funky combo position between tummy and side when I was pregnant after I couldnt sleep on my tummy anymore.   Pregnancy pillows sort of helped me but sometimes were a big pain.  Comfort kind of depended on the day with pregnancy...
  • Well there is hope for you yet. I was a stomach sleeper as well and I'm just about to hit 32 weeks and I've honestly been sleeping pretty great throughout the pregnancy.  I was able to sleep on my stomach for quite a while (that could partly have to do with my small bewbies though), but maybe wearing a sports bra would help with that?

Also, if it's because the girls are extra tender, don't worry, that passes/you get used to it.

I did start sleeping with a body pillow a few weeks ago, this has helped support my hips and stomach, so I'd definitely invest in something like this if you don't already have one.

  • Do they make body pillows specifically for pregnant women?

    I'm such a novice.

    imageimageimage
  • Yep! I just did a search on Amazon for pregnancy pillows:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_scat_382727011_ln?rh=n:382727011,k:pregnancy+pillow&keywords=pregnancy+pillow&ie=UTF8&qid=1291058449&scn=382727011&h=3dc2a7fb86fa42ba0cf1cbfdd32969e984d64316

Or, if you're frugal franny like me, just get a normal body pillow for half the price Wink
