Dan was supposed to take the red eye out last night and missed his flight. He was flying Spirit which only has one gate at LAX. He went to the gate and it said Detroit and Ft. Lauderdale. His flight was delayed an hour which meant it was leaving at the same time as the Ft. Lauderdale flight, so they moved the gate for the Detroit flight. He didn't realize that, boarded the plane and found out he was on the wrong plane. By that time it was too late to get to the right gate. It happened to six other people as well.
Spirit only leaves once a day, so he can't get out until tonight's red eye. I feel horrible that he has to spend Thanksgiving alone and I'm going to miss him being here. I'm very bummed and he is as well.
I managed to miss my flight yesterday as well. I had a 3 hour layover in Denver and then my flight got delayed another hour. At some point they switched my gate, which I didn't realize. The flight had been rescheduled for 6:30 and when I still hadn't heard anything about boarding at that time I went to look at the departure board and it said the flight was closed. I was in tears by the time I got to customer service and luckily there was a flight to Detroit (I was supposed to fly to Cleveland) leaving in 10 minutes. I was supposed to be on the standby list, but the lady was really nice and gave me a seat.
It was not a good day for flying and apparently the next time we fly we both need to be designated as unaccompanied minors.
