Ladies : Waxing

Have you ever waxed? does it hurt?

I am thinking bout doing it for honeymoon

Re: Ladies : Waxing

  • Yes, I've done it.  Yes, it hurts. A lot.

Are you looking at a bikini wax or a full brazilian?  Just so you know, if you want a full Brazilian they are going to wax your arsecrack.  A lot of people aren't aware of that and get a big surprise when their aesthetician tells you to turn over and spread your cheeks.

If you're planning on waxing, get it done a few times before your honeymoon.  It's easier every time (think about the first time you got your eyebrows waxed as opposed to the last time you got them done).  Also, for the love of god don't get waxed within three or four days of your honeymoon -- you will have an ugly, red, sore punani that is not going to look pretty or want to be touched.

  • I have been getting waxed for years and it is not as bad as it may seem like off the bat. However, it also depends on your pain tolerance. I wouldn't say that I have a high pain tolerance, probably medium (it smarts a little, but not too bad). I have gotten to the point where I do the full Brazillian. The salon that I use is able to wax the back in the same position that they do the rest of it, so it is not as awkward. Def. something to ask about.

Also, I would say to do the hard wax as opposed to strips. I really think that helps. I agree with the other post - don't make your first wax a brazillian. Most salons will allow you to schedule a "high" or "french" bikini (all in the front or a small strip of hair in front, but nothing happens in the back) and will do the standard bikini line first to test it out and if you feel you can tolerate more, then they will go further, if not, it will still look clean. Make sure that the salon you go to is a good one as a lot can go wrong down there if it's not!

Good luck! It isn't as bad as it may seem :o)

  • Its really not that bad.  Get some No Scream Cream.  It numbs the area and drastically reduces the discomfort.  I would recommend you go a few times before your honeymoon to get used to it.  I personally think it is worth the money.

As far as waxing your crack...its different at every salon.  My salon's brazillian wax doesn't include the whole crack.  Just tell the salon what you want.  You don't have to wax anything you don't want to.

  • I've done it for years. It's not that bad.. it's more annoying than painful. Make sure you go to a good salon and someone with a lot of experience. Do it a time or two before your honeymoon too. You don't have to wax anything you don't want to, they will ask you.
  • My gf is an esthetician and she recommends drinking lots of water, she said the more dehydrated your body is the tighter it holds on to the follicle. Is this true? I am not too sure but I always take in into consideration.

  • Do it at least 3 days before your honeymoon.

Take Motrin or aspirin 30 min before you go.

    Exfoliate the night before.

    Wear comfy pants.

Don't do it while on your period.

Getting the area around the ankle done hurts more than a Brazilian, if you get your legs waxed with no issue, you'll be OK.

ETA: I've been getting waxed for 10+ years. Eventually you get to a place where it doesn't bother you at all.

  • Do it! It may sting a little the first time, but you will love the results.  You will never want to use a razor again. Really!  Three days before the trip is good advise too.
  • french vs brazillian?

  • I did the Brazilian once in my life. It hurt so bad, I haven't been back since. But if what everyone says is true, that it hurts less and less with each waxing, I MAY try it again.
  • I did the Brazilian waxing for the first time ever getting waxed, and i did it on Friday and got married that Sunday, Yes it hurts but its kinda like a quick pull and then the pain is gone, (I do have a high pain tolerance tho) the area was a little uncomfortable (but not like an agonizing pain) for a while after i had it done but comfy pants (not tight ones) helped for the right after, we even went and did some shopping right after that visit. Good luck with what ever you deiced to do!

  • How much is a brazilian wax and what are the name of some locations where they do a nice job?  How long does it last approx?
  • I got married about 2 months ago and my first time getting a Brazilian wax was about a little over a month before I got married. I was super nervous and grossed out that they ask you at least grow it out a half an inch before you come in. The thing is they see this all the time and don't care but I don't usually let myself go like that so it was hard....... but trust me the longer the hair the less uncomfortable. I took an Advill and drank a glass of wine before my wax (does that sound bad?? haha) and yes it did hurt with every pull but it wasn't as bad as I thought just a quick sting with each. After the wax I was fine.

I went back 2 days before my wedding and I would say you are good to go 24 hours after your wax...if you want to be on the safe side. I personally think it is awesome now and I would say for me it lasted about 2 1/2 weeks until stubble appeared. And the great thing is that each time you go your hair grows in thinner and more sparse making it a whole lot quicker and less painful!

I went to this really cute boutique that does waxing and also has a little lingerie shop you can browse through before or after your wax. You get a free pair of panties with each bikini wax and the girls are young and make you feel very comfortable!

  • It's fine. No sex on the day of! Full brazilian is pretty uncomfortable, but a good technician helps a lot, and the pain goes away very quickly for me. I always take an NSAID before I leave now, I think thanks to recommendations on this board, not because the pain was bugging me but the swelling was inconvenient. So yeah, one ibuprofin really clears that up.
  • Also, you don't want your first ever waxing to be a full-on Brazilian. You want to work your way up to it, start with a regular bikini wax, adding a little more each time. The final step of a Brazilian is actually the part that hurts the least (the crack). Think of it as the reward at the end of the hard work!

  • My first waxing was a full Brazilian, actually, and it wasn't that bad.  I took Advil before, and I found a place that does this nifty honey wax that is waaaaaaaaaay less painful.  It was uncomfortable, but not bad.
