Buying appliances from big box stores....

I need to buy a washer.  I was wondering if Home Depot was better to deal with than Lowes, etc....

Re: Buying appliances from big box stores....

  • We have bought appliances from both stores for our home and our rental properties. Personally I have not seen any differences in customer service, delivery/setup etc.  I know Lowes did a price match for us for our W/D we bought earlier this year. Home Depot had Maytag on sale but I wanted the similar Whirlpool model at Lowes. I asked if they would match HD price and they said yes!

  • We bought ours from Lowe's and here's why- the pricing was more "up front", and we rec'd better customer service. I would def choose them over HD.
  • As far as customer service I think they'd all be about the same. But here's a link to print a 10% off coupon to use at any item at Lowe's

  • Ive never had to buy appliances yet (thankfully)...but my parents always went to Sears.  Theyve always had a great experience and they price match as well.
  • We had a really good experience buying from Best Buy---really painless and they offered a good price. I know they offered discounts if you bought multiple appliances from them--we bought a fridge, washer and dryer, so I think we got 15% off because we bought 3 appliances.

  • I would stay far away from HHGregg, they are a regional big box store.   They just moved to our area recently and we bought a Refrig. there and it was the worse exper. from start to finish I EVER had buying any applic. in my life!  Even the delivery was a mess - no warning, no date, no appt, just a message on our VM 'we will be there in an hour..."

We did not know when to expect the refrig. (neither did HHGregg) because  the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing over there, it took 8 WEEKS to get our refrig.!!!!  Thankfully we had a refrig. I just wanted a new color/style or I never would have tolerated waiting 8 weeks.

The whole process was such a problem I wrote a hand-written letter to the VP of appplic. at the corp office.

  • DH and I just bought an entire set of kitchen appliances from HD and had a really great experience. Great prices and excellent customer service. We've also bought several other special order items from HD (blinds, a new door, etc) and have always been very happy with the pricing & service.
