Trying to save a dog...

One of our technicians mentioned last night that someone she knew was looking for a home for their chihuahua mix.  I remember this dog being in the clinic.  It had a broken leg that they couldn't afford surgery for so we splinted it.  They didn't take good care of the splint (I remember the poor dog coming in all dirty and the splint was a wreck) so the leg is most likely permanently damaged.  This was back in May.  Now the people have lost their home and are living in an apartment that won't let the dog in.  Apparently they built a dog house and the poor dog is living outside.  I am sooooo pi$$ed!  A tiny dog like that can't survive outside in the freezing cold.  I told her to call them immediately.  I will foster the dog until I can find it a home.  She called them and now they say they have to "talk it over".  Seriously!!!  This dog is going to freeze to death!  If I can find out where this dog is it is going to mysteriously "disappear".  I am praying that they turn the dog over.  I can get him neutered and repair the leg then find him a home (probably with me but Jay doesn't know this yet!).  Wish me luck that they give me the dog (and that I don't end up in jail for stealing the him)!

Re: Trying to save a dog...

  • Good luck!! Are there any animal control officers in your county you can call? I know in Cleveland, we have the APL and you can report abuse issues and they'll go out and get the animal, but I don't think they go outside Cuyahoga County. I would try to find someone like that so you don't end up in jail!!

  • Oh I would steal him.  "He must have ran away"  I mean if they're leaving him outside, they aren't really paying attention to him anyway.  They prolly won't even notice for about a day that he's even missing.

I hope that you end up getting your hands on him.  Poor thing.  People like that really piss me off.

  • I'm with megerin-- are there any animal-welfare agencies in the area that you could call? Surely leaving a chihuahua outside in winter is considered abuse. We left our dogs outside during the day all the time when I was a kid, but they were bigger beasties and had actual fur. A tiny little desert creature like that was never meant to be out in the elements! Sad
  • Stuff like this makes me hate people.
