Christmas Card Question

I was going to specify for pet owners only, but I'd like input from everyone.

I'm planning on getting photo cards this year for our Christmas cards. We adopted 2 cats earlier this year and I want to take a picture of us with them for our card this year. I know people will often include their dogs in pictures, but do people put their cats in pictures? Do we include their names? I feel like including their names might be silly, but they are our furbabies now!

Also, if you use photo cards, what company do you recommend? I'm looking at Shutterfly right now.

Thanks!

Re: Christmas Card Question

  • I think the reason you don't see many cats in family photos, is, well, herding cats is no easy feat... If you can do it, do it!
  • If you can get your cats to sit still then I would do it! I think it's silly to put pet's names in cards, but it's up to you. I don't think people will mind either way.
  • Most of the time cats are less available for a photo shoot. Most people don't feel like digging the cat out of their warm comfy hiding place. My cat is a ham though and would probably hold still for hours to have his picture taken. It's all about what your animal is willing to do. Do it! :)

  • I would put their names on the card but thats just me. :)

I personally think all the sites are the same, kodak, shutterfly, snapfish, etc. I figure out what site to use based on $$.

  • In the past I've used Costco to print the cards ($15 for the first 50 but I think there is a coupon out there right now making it $10 for 50, then $5 for each additional 25) and bought/made a template to have printed (like from Swish Designs on Etsy). Costco comes with envelopes that are really nice.

This year I'm using Shutterfly because of the 50 free cards code I got. Otherwise they're too pricey for me at $1+each.

  • Thanks for the input! I didn't really think about them not cooperating. Maybe I'll wait until they both want cuddle time and then we can each hold one.
  • We took a picture with our dog this year.  He looks sooo sad in the picture because he was scared of the photographer.  I love having him in our pictures though. I say include your cat!
  • Last year, I used an iPhoto card template that had three picture spots on the front and just put one of each cat in two spots, and another picture of a festive wreath.  I managed to get a picture of Cozy in front of our fireplace with the stockings hung, and Shug under the Christmas tree, so the pics were very Christmas-y.  We signed them Todd, Stef, Shug & Cozy :)  This year, we'll probably just do one photo, of just Rustie, but all 5 of our names will go on it (or we'll do "K---- Family").  I would LOVE a pic of the 5 of us, but there is just really no way to do a nice (not obviously forcing the cats) photo of the cats...especially not with a dog.

I think we'll be doing this idea. We attempted to take a "family" picture last night, but it was pretty hopeless. We tried to bribe the cats with treats and catnip. And then my husband didn't like the idea of us holding them. He wanted them just laying in front of us. I have no idea how he thought was going to work. So instead I just took a pictures of each of them under the tree (their new favorite spot since the tree skirt is so soft) and will use those pictures. We'll just use a picture of us from France.
