Things I have learned about baby birthdays

We had a great time yesterday celebrating Xander's birthday with our families. I woke up at 630 to get everything ready. I made the icing for the cake, made two pounds of baked ziti, Andrew made the sauce for me and then took Xander to the grocery store so I could finish up. We were out at my parents house by noon and cooking by 130.

We had baked ziti, chicken cutlets, bread and caeser salad for dinner. Our families arrived at 4 and we sat down around 5 for dinner, and then we started to open presents after. Xander was not excited about opening his gifts, which I did expect. We didn't wrap most of his gifts because of that reason. After he realized there were toys he became interested in the gifts. After presents came cake time. Xander did not make a mess at all with his smash cake, he liked the icing, but wasn't too into the cake.

Things I have learned:

Unwrapped gifts work best for a 1 year old.

Buying a cake next year.

Pizza for dinner next year.

Best $9 I spent this year was on three bouncy balls for Xander, my niece and nephew, they loved them!

Re: Things I have learned about baby birthdays

  • I always wondered why parents did big parties for a one year old.  I mean, it's not like the kid is going to remember or anything.  But, as I get closer to actually having a baby, I can totally understand it!  It sounds like you guys had a great party!!

  • We kept it as small as we could, our parents, siblings and our grandparents. We had 16 including the 3 kiddies. I think if it was any larger and I would have lost my mind.

  • Glad it was a success! I'm wavering between a big party and a small one. Either way it will likely be just family and like 3 of our friends.
