Stinky gym clothes :(

DH has the stinkiest gym clothes in the world!  I have been washing them with Tide sport detergent with a soak and extra rinse cycle but they still smell.  What can I try to get the stink out?

Re: Stinky gym clothes :(

  • White vinegar.

If that doesn't work, it's time for new gym clothes... or a new gym bag.

Speaking of which... have you tried washing his bag yet? Every time he throws his nasty clothes in the bag, the bag absorbs some of the smell. The bag then transfers the smell to the clean clothes... enter vicious cycle.

I have always used regular Tide, a scoop of borax, and vinegar instead of fabric softener.

    Always does the trick.

This. The same technology that wicks sweat away from the skin (in certain gym clothes like rash guards and bike shorts) traps the sweat within the fabric itself. Vineger does work at neutralizing the stench. And borax is magic :) so it adds to the squeaky clean.

I always do this with my gym clothes after awhile.  A bit of vinegar in the water and it's good to go.

  • I've tried a febreeze detergent addon that's actually for this very problem. It works well! GL
  • I use tide, scoop of borax, and hot water (if it's cotton).  Works like a charm. Anniversary
