Re: Stories

  • thanksgiving was nice. H had to work so that was a little bit of a bummer but it was still nice to spend time with my family and his. and i did end up going shopping (not in the wee hours of the morning though... it was more like noon) and hit some great sales.

no horror stories to report. my mom was a little dramatic but thats about par for the holidays. she gets herself stressed out over nothing.

the highlight of my weekend was when my 18 month old niece said my name for the first time on thanksgiving night! i've been trying to get her to say CC for weeks and when i walked in the door she pointed to me and said it!

  • My weekend was really great. On Thursday, we went to my mom's house for dinner. My mom makes a super traditional Thanksgiving dinner that is the same every year. I really love it. My nephew had turned one the day before and took turns walking everyone around the house. He loved the ceiling fan in my mom's room. This year, no one had any other dinners to go to so after dinner, everyone relaxed in the living room, talking and playing with the baby.

H and I did a little Black Friday shopping at midnight. I had never done any Black Friday shopping before and I actually had a lot of fun.

The rest of the weekend was spent putting up Christmas decorations and watching football.

I do have one minor horror story. I bought a sweater dress to wear to dinner and had tights on under it. I was sitting on the floor and leaned over to kiss my nephew. My dress stuck to my tights and gave everyone a nice look at my butt. Luckily, I was wearing full coverage black undies!

  • My weekend was very quiet and relaxing. We did a whole lot of nothing, I guess you could say we were couch potatoes and watched a lot of football. We went out for my birthday and then Thanksgiving we went to a friends house.

Fri, Sat and Sunday we pretty much finished the unpacking and started on the Christmas decorations. I guess being lazy isn't a bad thing every once and a while, but it was definitely not the same as being with all the family and friends.

  • My long weekend was great! H and I went shopping Friday and at night my mom and I put up the Christmas tree.

The highlight of my weekend was Saturday. Mom, dad, H and I all got together in the kitchen to make an authentic Spanish feast for dinner. Then we listened to music, had a couple of drinks and played bingo.

  • I got yelled at by step MIL for saying Jessica Simpson was getting chunky.  Umm, seriously? Tongue Tied  And that about sums up my turkey day.

But the part of the weekend where I sat around and watched football was fantastic.

  • Thanksgiving with H's dad's side was like an MTV reality TV program.  Seriously.  Brawls in the parking lot and all.

The rest was nice and relaxing.  I felt a little bit country on Friday when MIL shot a deer at 3:00 and it was on the dinner table by 7:00.  And we got to finish off the weekend with my family :)

Oh... and college football went all kinds of my way this weekend!!!

  • went to my aunt's. her family friends were there for the weekend and turns out the husband is totes racist. asked DH if he had any "race mixing" in his college courses (he's an instructor ). THEN he proceeded to say some shiz like "oh well at least the people in your classes who were laid off are in school instead of sitting on their asses collecting unemployment"

to which my darling husband responded with the story of his father who collected unemployment on and off for three years because his masters degree rendered him too $$ to hire, and if he had gotten a 20 hour 7.25 job rather than "sit on his lazy ass" and collect, his parents would be homeless.

    BIG FAT POINTS FOR DH.

  • Oh Thanksgiving...It was an exciting one. I suggest you all buckle up for this story.

We postponed Thanksgiving until Friday because of the horrible weather we were supposed to get. Anyway. I worked until 1:00, and then drove out to my parents house with my H. We got there and I just wanted to relax, dad cooked up a King Crab appetizer, and I had myself a beer. Life was good.

My older brother has Tourette Syndrome, and there is a lot that comes with that. He gets really psychotic really quickly, and we can't talk about anything good that is happening in our lives because he get's crazy insanely jealous, and gets very violent. He was not invited to the wedding because there was no way he could have held it together. Anyway.

My H and I were talking about the house we want to buy, and he was asking us questions. I was a little worried about his mood, but it seemed innocent. Conversation with the family continued, and we were having a good time. He starts to pace when he gets irritated. So he went to the upstairs bathroom, and brought down a toothbrush holder, and basically broke it in front of all of us. Because he can. He is 28 by the way. We all ignored this, and kind of started walking on egg shells, because that is a big sign of his crappy mood. He threw it away, and went outside.

I decide to open a bottle of wine, and my sister and mom came to help me in the kitchen. My brother comes back inside, and takes his stuff off. Then we hear things falling hard in the living room. He pushed my dad so hard that he fell backwards over the couch and the coffee table! My H was sitting on the couch with my dog, and was completely stunned.  He had no idea what to think. We ran in, and dad was on the floor, his drink spilled everywhere! It was crazy! Then he says "Back off, I'm armed! I have a gun in my coat!"

We don't believe him, because there is no way in he!! someone is going to sell him a gun. My dad got up, he and my mom took him outside, and are trying to get him to get in a car so someone can drive him home (he doesn't drive). I shove my little brother out there, just so my mom has some back up on the 30 min drive back to town, and they leave. I finished dinner, and we had a peaceful Thanksgiving an hour later.

My mom met with him today, and he did it because he was an abused child (even though he has made the last 15 years or so he!! for us), dad was watching football and talking with us, and no one wanted to go outside with him (he didn't ask). He also wants to write all of the siblings a letter about how he doesn't want us to be siblings anymore (which is fine with me). I know that sounds harsh, but I can't have him around us or a potential baby if he cannot control his emotions.

That was my Thanksgiving. Cookies for all who read the whole thing! <3

Wow! I am sorry you had to deal with all that. I am just glad things ended peacefully and no one got hurt. I know a bit about Tourette's Syndrome, but didn't know they could get that psychotic. Yikes.

  • Thanksgiving was ok.  I found out I was making dinner the day before TG so it was a mad dash. FIL caused drama as usual (I really don't know why anyone buys into it anymore.)

Mom and I went to SLC to see grandma and aunt on TG.  We ended up getting stranded there (we were supposed to come home yesterday but the roads were closed.  My mom and I both had to get off work for today.  We had to take the long way home (a 4 hour drive took 7 hours) and I just got home.

And came home to a soda spilled all over my DS and some pills because my niece and nephew stayed over one night while I was gone.  I'm so tired those kids having no respect for anything. *end vent*

  • H and I were on our own for Thanksgiving but I was excited to only eat once this year (Normally we eat once with his family and then eat later with my family). I decided I wanted to have a super traditional meal and when the turkey was almost done I cut up some potatoes and put them in a pot with water and it started to boil. H decided to cover the pot with the glass lid that came with the pot and about 5 minutes later we heard a huge POP and looked over at the pot and the glass lid had completely shattered! Glass went all into the potatoes and all over the stove top. We had to throw away all the potatoes. Thankfully, we had 2 small potatoes left and I was able to make just enough for us.
  • Thanksgiving went well for me. Had some great food and was declared Cornhole MVP for the tourney we had at my FIL's sister's house even though I spent some time of the tourney nursing a sick H.
