I'm so bitter right now (teaching vent)
I don't get flustered or jealous at work too often. Some of you might remember that, at the beginning of the year, one of the grade nine teachers basically trashed me to a group of my old students. She's off on mat leave for the rest of the school year right now and has this supply teacher (an older woman) who's not very experienced.
Now, the supply teaches the grade nine drama class (which was the one class I desperately wanted to teach, but was told I couldn't due to both scheduling conflicts and nobody wanted to teach the grade 7 English) and has been flailing wildly teaching the subject very badly. I talked with her today, went over the curriculum expectations with her AND gave her my material, and she basically said "Ms. Evil-Teacher-on-Leave doesn't do any of that - she says it's not important."
So wait... I got reemed out for not teaching all of my curriculum AND half the grade nine one to my kids, but she's not teaching ANY of the required skills to her drama class. Holy double standards much? I'm going to explode. I haven't been this angry in ages...

I sure know I knew the difference between crappy teaching and a great teacher. My 9th grade English teacher went on Maternity leave and left us with the worst teacher ever.

I completely and totally get this...we have a few teachers at school who seem to be able to get away with just doing their own thing all the time, but the rest of us get attacked if we don't meet the expectations we are supposed to. Don't get me wrong, I work my a$$ off to meet those expectations and think they are important, but it pisses me off when people get treated differently just because of who they are. In our case it is because they are people who tend to be the most vocal...it is true what they say about the squeaky wheel...
