Report: RNC Spent More Than $150,000 to Spruce Up Palin
Politico reports the Republican National Committee went on a spending spree in September to sharpen Sarah Palin's appearance
Plenty has been said about Sarah Palin's appearance, from her designer glasses to her striking similarity to actress Tina Fey.
But lately her stylish look has come at a price -- more than $150,000 of which was paid for by the Republican National Committee -- according to a report Tuesday by Politico.
The Web site cited financial disclosure records that suggest the wardrobe makeover began in September and included bills from Sak's Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York totaling nearly $50,000.
The documents also show a $75,000 shopping trip at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis in September, as well as about $4,700 spent on hair and makeup, Politico reported. Documents don't show similar costs in August.
John McCain announced Palin as his running mate on Aug. 29, just before the Republican National Convention, held Sept. 1 to 4 in St. Paul, Minn.
Politico said a McCain spokeswoman declined to answer specific questions about the expenditures, saying "the campaign does not comment on strategic decisions regarding how financial resources available to the campaign are spent."
Top campaign staff members told FOX News later Tuesday that the purchases would be donated to charity or auctioned off.
A similar review by Politico of expenditures by Barack Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee revealed "no similar spending."
Agreed!
I'd just like to know why a regular small-town mayor like her would shop at elitist stores like Saks and Neiman Marcus...
Suits aren't cheap, but you only need 2 or 3 of them and then lots of different ties. Nobody will notice the difference between 2 black suits. Whereas women are expected to wear something different every freakin day.
I'm not jealous at all....
GQ or Esquire (probably GQ) occassionally does articles on how much what famous person (including politicians) clothing costs, where to get it and where to get something really similar. Their stuff is spendy, for sure.
Ditto marquis, though. I'm totally jealous of their ability to change a tie and have a whole new look. Not fair!
compare and contrast...
