New TSA experience

Hi Ladies,

Hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.  Since a lot of us are traveling for holidays, I wanted to ask you what you think about the new TSA security measures.

I don't like the whole body scanner, because I worry about the radiation.  I also don't want to be pattes on my privates or breasts.  Unfortunately, the new rules are here, and it's either one, or the other, or just no flying at all.  I wish we did not live in the times where fear takes over rationality, but I am afraid it's too late for that.

So, what do you think ladies?

Re: New TSA experience

  • Special snowflake here, but I chose that I don't really like it. I do think that the body scan is an invasion of privacy since they really do see a weird naked image of you. We are exposed to radiation from so many other sources that I'm not sure the extra from the body scanners makes the risk much worse than it already is. My real problem with the TSA is that I am not convinced that any of these measures actually work. My theory is that they are mostly for PR so that everyone thinks they are safer in the airports since the TSA is using really fancy technology. The bottom line is that all of those methods require human verification and at some busier airports the TSA doesn't pay attention to what is going on. Case in point, I accidentally took a taser in my carry on through O'Hare over the summer. I had completely forgotten that it was in my bag until it was confiscated in Oklahoma on my return trip. I no longer feel very safe flying through O'Hare.

  • I think Jess hit it dead on---I agree there's a margin of error that will never disappear.  Neither measure really bother me--we are exposed to radiation every day, so the few times I extra seems marginal.  The pat downs don't bother me---it seems like it is a measure that is a non issue until it was blown out of proportion by the media and vocal opponents have blown this issue.

I do believe that if people purchase the ticket they agree to comply with TSA procedure and I get irritated when people complain about it.

I agree.  Especially with your last comment (I tried to highlight, but it didn't work!)
