(pointing) "him big, mommy."
Mortified. Happened to me yesterday, and I never saw it coming. She's been obsessed with big/little lately. (cute example: I love you big much mommy!)
I told Lily that it wasn't nice to point at people, or to call people big.
I'm pretty sure she was actually talking about his onion rings, though it really didn't matter. I *hope* he didn't hear her.
Suggestions welcome!

My silly Lily is almost 4.

Re: (pointing) "him big, mommy."
I would have died.
When Paige was just about 10 months she would point and laugh at every person we waked past in the grocery store. It was so embarrassing I stopped taking her with me or I went during the weekday when there was not many people there.
"What's that big lady doing mommy?" - Aiden asked that a few weeks ago about our cashier (who was large). He meant that she was big and in an adult, but the fact that she was big didn't help! She just acted like she didnt hear him.
When I was 4 my mom took me into a 7-11. The clerk was very large. I asked her if she was pg like my mommy or just fat. My mom never went back into that store again!
I love my crazy child!
My Bio
IMO, she is a kid. Kids will be kids, and they will say the most inappropriate things at the worst time ever.
This weekend I was shopping and I was standing behind my car with my trunk open. I had some wrapping paper that was coming unraveled so I was rolling it back up while I was waiting for Chris to come out of the store.. Two ladies and a little girl got out of an explorer near me, and the little girl was super pale. Maybe Albino. I wasn't staring at her, i was just zoned out but "looking" in her direction. Her mom looked at me, and gave me a dirty look. I guess she thought I was staring @ her daughter. I totally wasn't, I was just lost in my thoughts. I felt awful. =/
Ever see the show Kids Say the Darndest Things?
If I was the guy, I wouldn't take it personally, she is not old enough to know any better. If she were a few years older, it would be different. I don't really have any advice, I would have been embarrassed as well.
Married Bio
Using the moment to teach her that it isn't appropriate to point at others and comment on their size was about the best thing you could do. If he had acted like he had noticed I would've apologized but there really is nothing more you can do. Kids are very honest and will blurt things out as they are learning and exploring new things so this definitely won't be the first time.
One of Beckett's preschool teachers is very tall and on the larger size. The other one is very slim and petite. Before he learned their names, he kept referring to his one teacher as "The Big One." Hopefully he only called her that to us. I was quick to make sure he learned her name and told him if he was referring to her size, to use the word "tall." I'm sure as a teacher of 2 year olds, she doesn't take to heart whatever they might they say, but still, it wasn't something I wanted her to hear.
I think you handled it appropriately.
My own embarrassing contribution. DD is now learning body parts, one of which is "pee pee." Sometimes, she approaches strangers when we're out and puts her finger on their crotch and says, "Pee pee!" This has happened to more than one waitress this month.
Oh my. Loskadoodle and Nicole, you win. I'd rather "him big."
My silly Lily is almost 4.
