Re: USDA asked to approve GMO non-browning apple

  • To make them more appealing in salads and lunches...put them in lunchboxes whole, and sprinkle lemon juice on the slices that will go on salads. Walla. Being able to sell them long past their prime is really disgusting; Produce like that tends to lose nutritional value rather quickly. This is one more crop that would be shipped across the country and sold when it shouldnt be in season.

  • Hmm This is not a good idea. Seriously, use a little lemon juice people.

  • As if we don't have enough unnecessary, horrible tasting GM food. I heard the red delicious used to actually taste good.
  • Ugh.  I am so worn out on the GMO issue, I've been writing public comments and attending public meetings for a losing battle for so long.  At least this article is written well, and hit the nail on the head:

He also said the non-browning technology appears to benefit apple growers and shippers more than consumers by allowing companies to sell apples that are older than they look.

    BINGO.

    Are red delicious GM?

  • Seriously, so people buy their apples in packages like this?  image

I am further disturbed by this PA processing plant (which makes the product above).  So are the apples sent to them from WA?  Pretty sure there are 4  different apple orchards that came up in a quick google search of that area.
