Right now, he is in a big committee meeting.
Remember when he submitted his thesis draft last week? Well today, he needs to show them why it's awesome, and why they should let him formally defend it and graduate.
His supervisor has been no help at all. Last night, she sent him an email basically expressing surprise that he had gotten this far ahead - um, hello, she just hasn't been paying attention. But he's got one of the other committee members on board so hopefully that prof will advocate for him.
Best case scenario - they tell him to go ahead and defend (perhaps with some edits). Not so good - they tell him it's OK, make some edits and please meet with them again before defending (because it's those extra steps which have been stalling him). Worst case - they tell him it's no good at all and he decides to walk away from it all.
