Hi girls. Sorry for the C&P, but I already lost my post once. Lucas is currently napping so I thought I would share his birth story with you all.
So he was born on 11/20. I had woken up that morning and I was losing my mucus plug. I had plans to go Christmas shopping with my Mom, Aunt and Cousin that day so I got up and showered. My Mom showed up and I was finishing getting ready when my water broke. Three large gushes. I made a call to the Dr and she said to take my time, but head in. Even though I had no contractions yet, they didn?t want to risk it since my water broke. We took our time, Larry walked Brady, showered and I got the last few things we needed together. We headed to the hospital at about 10. On the way there I started feeling a couple contractions, but nothing big at all.
We get to the hospital and they hook me up to the monitors. It showed my contractions were coming every two minutes, but I wasn?t feeling all of them. We needed them to get stronger to do more. The Dr. came to check me at about 11:30 and I was 3cm. She said she would be back to check me in a couple of hours, we just needed to wait for stronger contractions at this point. Well, they came and at my next check I was 5cm. Things were definitely progressing. A couple of hours later I was at 7cm and was starting to feel pretty nauseous every few contractions. I tried out the jetted tub they had in my room and tried to relax a bit, but was still getting sick. I was vomiting so much that I got to the point of just dry heaving and it was not fun. I didn?t have an epidural or anything and finally got to the point where she wanted me to push and they decided to give me a shot of Nubain. They wanted to try to ?take the edge off? and see if I could stop throwing up. They told me it wouldn?t stop me from feeling the contractions or anything, but were hoping I could stop getting sick.
I started pushing at about 4:30 or so. I was still getting pretty nauseous, but wasn?t throwing up. The problem was with nothing in my system, it hit me hard. I could barely keep my eyes open and even while pushing I was falling asleep?or should I say passing out?in between contractions. Things went on like this for a few hours. We tried different positions (my side, squatting, kneeling over the back of the bed, etc) but Baby Mac was not wanting to come out. We got to the point where the heart rate would start to drop so basically the Dr. told me I needed to get him out or she was going to try the vacuum once and then send me to the OR. She told me I had a few contractions left while she got situated to get him out. Well, thankfully at 8:01, out came Baby BOY Mac all on his own. He ended up being 8lbs 11oz and face up instead of down and that was why he just did not want to come out. No one knew it until he got here because I had no back labor or anything. It took 11 hours from water break to baby.
I found out after that the nurse was thinking he was headed for help when he came out because he also had the cord around his neck 3 times. Instead my strong little man started crying right away and got to come straight to my chest. It was amazing!!
I ended up with a second degree tear, but I am not even sure how many stitches I got. My recovery has been great. I have felt good each day, except Tuesday. Tuesday I just ached, not really pain. My milk was coming in so my chest ached and I had a TDAP shot that included tetanus, so my arm was killing me. Ironically the parts you would think should hurt, weren?t that bad. Haha
Lucas did have some jaundice so all week he had to keep getting checked. They poked his little foot like 10 times in his first week. I felt so bad. But he is doing great and as of Friday he was up to 8lbs 13oz. I spend so much time just staring at him and it is all so surreal. I will try and post some more pictures!
Re: Lucas' birth story (long)
Yay, Baby Lucas! Congratulations again! I can't wait to see more pictures!!
I don't remember - were you planning to go epi-free? I am impressed with anyone who does without!

Thank you! Yes, I was hoping to. The only thing I knew was no epidural and Larry and my Mom were the only ones allowed in. After that I took it as it came.
