We are visiting Providence around the new year. My SIL emailed me to ask what we might want to do while there. Last time we visited, we went to some brew pub downtown with delcious calamari, and we ate plenty of oysters and quahog clams - all of which we would like to do again. There was mention of some First Night festivities in Providence and Boston. Other than that, what would you recommend? Any must-sees?
Oh, and on a previous visit, we toured a winery. It was fine, but I don't think we need to do that again.

I think you are talking about Trinity Brewhouse? Or Union Station. Both good.
Hmm, all my activities are beach and food centered. Beach is a no go in Providence, so I can just tell you good places to eat. Would that help?

When I get a little more time, I'll put together a list of places I'd recommend eating.
I don't think Providence's First Night is anything special any more. The budget has been slashed the last few years, so Boston might be a better bet for that. There are definitely more fun things to do in the summer around here, but you should still do a Newport trip.
