favorite NYC holiday tradition

This is my husband and I's first Christmas in the city, and we are excited. I feel like NYC is the best "holiday" city. What are some things you look forward to about this time, or traditions you have?

We went to the Rockettes for the first time, and plan on attempting to ice skate at rockefeller center. We are putting up your decorations in our apartment today.

Happy Holidays:)

Re: favorite NYC holiday tradition

  • The city is beautiful this time of year.  I love walking around and looking at all the department store windows.  Happy Holidays!

  • I second the department store windows...especially Macy's on 33rd...it's absolutely beautiful. Besides that and Rockerfeller center, I can't really think of any other must-see's. Maybe stop by FAO Schwartz? Sorry, I'm no help. =/

    Happy Holidays!

  • I love the department store windows too. We always go to see the tree in Rockefeller Center (we even went to the tree lighting one year). We usually try to go ice skating (our family tradition has been to go on January 1, after celebrating the new year together, but here in Brooklyn). I'm going to try to make DH go ice skating in the city this year I think. We also love driving around to different neighborhoods (again in Brooklyn) to walk around and look at Christmas lights.
  • I love the holiday shops in Bryant Park and Union Square.  Local artists sell their handmade items and there are usually a lot of yummy treat booths as well.

  • I love all the decorations around the city too.  Not just stores, but also the different things in each neighborhood.  Having a cup of cocoa or something and just walking around.

I can't wait for some snow.  A snow day would be nice as well.  ;)

  • It's our first xmas together in the city as well!  Last year before xmas we drove around and saw the xmas tree and the lights and that was nice to do from the comfort of a car instead of braving the crowds!  A snow day would definitely make it feel more like xmas!
