how do you keep from telling someone to STFU? (vent)

I work with one of my friends husbands. Yesterday on FB she posts something like "OMG I'm so tired of stuff going wrong at H's work cuz then I gotta deal with him and them....he really doesnt get paid enough."

1. I'm the bookkeeper/office manager/problem dealer-with-er. There wasn't anything wrong. 2. When so many people don't have jobs (my H included), lets not biitch about those that do. 3. Her H makes okay money. Would he make that anywhere else without a degree or training? No. 4. She doesn't deal with anything that happens here. If her H is pissed about something that happens here and takes it out on her that isn't my problem.

Today I post that its colder in my office than it is outside. She comments that its because my work is cheap. It took every ounce of niceness in me to only respond with "actually its because the heat is broken and the people who own the building keep lying about sending someone to fix it."

OMG STFU! I get it. She absolutely without a doubt hates her husbands job. How freaking horrible it must be to have a husband making more money than she does and providing for her and her family. How horrible it must be to know that without your husbands current job you wouldn't have the house you live in. How freaking horrible it must be that you complain about how your kids are spoiled but you spend every freaking penny your husband makes buying them crap for Christmas to the point where you can't pay your mortgage.

But yeah, lets just spend each day complaining about the company that provides you with the ability to do all that.

  • Oh how freaking annoying.  I would get tired of hearing her complain.  Next time she opens her mouth shove a sock in it so she can't speak.  Next time she complains on FB send her a link to the local Help Wanted ad so they can look for another job.  I say they, because she obviously has input in what he does.

  • She wonders why I rarely see her in person. Oh, I dunno, because I get tired of hearing her complain!  The Help Wanted section sounds like a great idea. I'll probably just start a bunch of crap by doing it, but whatever.
  • She sounds pretty ungrateful.  I'd probably hide her from my feed.  If that didn't help, because she was commenting on my posts, I'd say something.  Not overly biitchy, but kind of sneaky like, "I haven't noticed any of the issues you've mentioned.  I'm just grateful that I have a job."

  • I just saw her comment on you FB.  You want me to go make a snarky comment to her? :-P  She sounds pretty ungrateful and overly whiny.  I usually do what Laura does with those types and hide them so I don't have to see it all the time.

  • She's one of my closer friends so I don't really want to hide her just yet, I'm just overly done with the constantly complaining she's been doing for the past 2 weeks or so.

Maybe a 2 day hide or something. =)

  • hmmm....you gotta wonder what the husband has been saying to her though.  He is her only source of info and obviously the one forming her opinions.  How stupid (and insensitive) of her to make his/her feelings so public.  Especially knowing your relationship to the owners.

Honestly, I don't think he's saying much. He knew that he would get the crappy end of the stick sometimes and have to travel last minute. She knew it told (I told her) and they were both okay with it. She's also a bit....dramatic lets say. If her H came home and said "I have to leave tomorrow to go to X location because the people there messed it up." she would hear "I have to leave tomorrow because this stupid cheap ass company I work for is too stupid to sell things to smart customers."

I damn near told her to STFU a couple of months ago when she said "H worked 41 hours this week. That's illegal." Uh no, your husband is salary and considering most weeks he works 35 hours and gets paid for 40, how 'bout cha shut up about the hour, mmkay?

Its so nice to vent. =)

  • Sort of along the lines of what Alicia is saying, if I were her husband I'd be kind of ticked that she was trash-talking my employer on a public forum.

HAH.  I wish that were the case.  I can't remember the last time I worked less than 41 hours in a week.  I wonder what she'd do if she were married to my H.  He works up to 60 hours in a week sometimes.

I really don't think she understands that in larger companies, someone could easily get fired for what she's doing. She's lucky its such a small company and that they probably wouldn't think to check the FB of their employee's wives.
  • She sounds like an ahole who likes to butt in to situations that are beyond her grasp.

  • OH FLYING FUDGEBALLS. She freaking posted again "either way ur work is cheap...lol...sorry..."

I can't decide if I want to say "uh you know you can get him fired for posting stuff like this" or "you're right. That horrible biitch Nichole who handles the money is such a cheap bastard."

ETA: For those of you who care and aren't my FB friend, I went with calling myself a cheap ass.

My contract is for 50 hours.  My company pays me for 50 even though most of the time they only require me to stay 45 hours.  But those times I have to stay the full 50 suck cause I know I'm not getting more money for the "extra" time.

I saw that you called yourself a cheap ass...I don't like your friend and couldn't resist the urge to comment (though I didn't say anything mean)

  • Well I have a friend who keeps posting half-naked pictures of herself, and now is complaining about having to diet because she's in fitness competitions.  Give me a break - you know you look hot in a bikini, that's why you post all these pictures.  Stop fishing for compliments you skank.

  • how annoying! And I agree with PP, she sounds ungrateful for him having a job that apparently pays him more than any other place would w/out a degree. Can you just delete her comments from your status as well? I know she's your friend but sounds like she needs a swift kick in the asssss.

Gah!  I can't get on FB at work!!  Dying to see :p

  • (double post cuz the internets hates me)

  • Ooops, I keep getting sidetracked and forgetting to come back and post.

Alicia, I'd love to comment on what you said but it'd just go over her head again. I give up. I'm just going to ignore her for a while even though its taking tons and tons of control to be like "hey idiot. your H could get FIRED for your comments."
