Any teachers on the board?

Hi Ladies!

A mostly lurker coming out. It looks like I will be moving to MA within the next year or so and am wondering about jobs in teaching. I have a masters in a science field and experience teaching at the college level, but no teaching certificate. I am interested in middle school / high school level. Anyone have any experience, suggestions?

TIA!

Re: Any teachers on the board?

  • I teach science just outside of Boston. Each spring there are usually a good supply of science teaching jobs available. I would recommend taking the MTEL (teacher test) soon, it takes some people several time to pass, even very qualified people struggle with the subject tests. If you don't care about getting liscenced there are a lot of private schools around.Good Luck!

  • I second getting started quickly. The MTELs can be tough and are only scheduled for certain days, and you will want as much time as possible. looking at middle and high school will give you an advantage, as will your previous experience teaching. Good Luck on the search!

  • Thanks for the tips, I will get on that ASAP. Any other suggestions, I'm all ears!
