if you're willing to travel a little bit south, i'd recommend a mexican place called sinigual, on 3rd ave and 42nd street. they do guacamole table-side, and their margaritas are solid.
there is zengo a block or so down from there as well, which is a mexican-asian fusion place that is also pretty good...they have a thai chicken quesadilla that's to die for.
