holy $hitballs

I just got a letter from StudentAid BC that they are eliminating my student loans! They reassessed my finances and based on my need (whatever that means) they have written off my loans! Just as I'm graduating and they will becoming due!

I cant believe it, I'm kind of in shock. I still have the federal portion to pay off, and I will now be taxed on my loans as income, but still. I'm shocked. I didn't even think we were that hard up (not that I'm complaining).

Moral of the story: there are a LOT of services out there to help you if you have kids and want to go back to school. I also got free daycare for 14 months.

It makes me feel a little bit better about not having a job lined up yet!

  • That's awesome! I have a friend who works for Student Loans Sask and she told me that that is actually super common. They give the Sask portion never expecting it to be repaid! lol Yay for loan forgiveness!

    That's amazing!

If I ever complain about paying taxes again I want someone to take me out back and shoot me. Seriously. We have been quite lucky with all the services we qualified for and I intend to be ever thankful....

  • Thats awesome! Alberta forgave 75% of my provincial loans. Too bad that is was the only worth 25% of my total student loan debt. Only 6 more months tell my federal student loans are paid off.

  • Congratulations!  Looks like they are willing to reward you for all of your hard work.
  • Wow! That must be a huge relief!

  • That is INSANELY WONDERFUL.

I'd hit the floor and probably never get up again if I found out my student loans disappeared.  Those things are the bane of my existence.  I'd do anything for them to go away.

Anyway, this is a great story, thanks for sharing.
