Would you ever do this?

The other day my MIL said that if she ever ran over a kid and killed them, she would sue the family for not watching their kid even if it was an accident. I don?t think I could ever do that! What do you think?

  • Wow. Indifferent

So she is going to sue a family who just lost their child? What if it was her error in driving. Then what? Sounds like a gem of a lady

I am still kinda upset about it. I guess she said it was to stop the family from sueing her. I still could not do it! How awful that would be!

  • OMG. what a piece of work.

I saw something similar on the Today show several weeks ago. A guy hit a boy that was riding his bike on the shoulder. He's in prison. He's suing the family because they didn't make the  boy wear a helmet. I think the kid was 14 or 15.

  • http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/40181991/   There is the story I talked about ...

As far as the family not suing her bc she sues them. Seriously? I'm no lawyer, but I don't think it works that way.

  • 1.  Your MIL has issues.  A lot of them, apparently.

    2.  Suing someone will not stop them from suing you.

    3.  Please keep Aiden far, far away from the back end of her car.

  • I'm sorry, but if that ever happened I would think a normal person with a conscience would be too distraught and traumatized to even think of suing the parents!!

  • The thought of doing that would never even cross my mind... what is wrong with your MIL? Eeek.
  • I am starting to see a real psychological pattern here from your MIL to your H.
  • Wow, that's one harsh MIL you have! I agree with pp that just because she sues them, it won't stop them from suing her. I'm not a lawyer, but if she did sue them and they sue her, can't they bring up her lawsuit against them in her trial? I don't think that would make a good impression on a jury if so. Geesh.

I was just thinking the same thing.

I hope things are improving a little bit for you, Liz.

How would it stop them? In fact it would instigate them even more to file a lawsuit against her. Either way...I suggest she increases her auto liability coverage and I hope I never get her claim...

Sad but true :( I'm not taking any night classes next semester so MIL wont even have to watch aiden at all. :)

I don't really know if things are improving. H is so back and forth with his moods. He has been really nice the past few days but who knows when his next "hissy fit" will be.
