diva cup ?

I did a scan through as many diva posts as I could. For those of you that use or have used the nuva ring, does it essentially sit the same way, only with a cup attached? I'm trying to wrap my head around the insertion of this thing and if it would work for me. I started having pains with tampons and the doc isn't really sure what it's from, so this might be a good alternative. I couldn't use a pad if I wanted to. My flow is super heavy.

Re: diva cup ?

  • I don't use a Nuvaring, but those encircle your cervix, right?  The Diva Cup doesn't do that, it just sits in your vagina below the opening of the cervix.

  • Do you have a cup already, that you can fiddle with, or are you just trying to get an idea of it?

To answer your question: Nope, not at all.  The goal is to get the ring as far in there as possible, essentially encircling the cervix.  With a reusable menstrual cup, the goal is to insert it only as deeply as necessary to be comfortable and to form a seal.

Are you planning to use the two together?  You can; it's no problem.  Just be aware that when removing the cup the ring can pop loose too, so you want to do it in the shower to prevent it from falling in the toilet.

  • I no longer use the ring and I don't have a cup. I'm just curious about the details before I buy one. We're TTC at the moment as well, so I'm sort of in limbo whether to buy a cup now or wait until after baby to buy the bigger size. Thanks for the clarification. I would've totally jacked that thing way in there if I hadn't asked.

  • They are only 1/8" (3mm) different in size, so you may just want to get the bigger size now.  Worst case is it's a bit big and you can't use it till later -- better than getting one that's too small (and therefore leaks) if you'll be pregnant soon(ish) anyway...

TTC is a perfect reason to switch to a cup.  Tampons have so many chemicals that can alter your pH, moisture levels, etc, and the pain you're feeling might go away when your body isn't exposed to them.  It's worth a shot.  FWIW, I have a super heavy flow as well, and although I haven't had a kid, I use the bigger size Lunette Cup (similar to Diva, but bigger holes, so less suction).

  • How old are you? I'm 29, but will be 30 next year and bought the bigger cup. Not really a big deal IMO.
  • I would just go ahead and get the bigger cup.

Ditto this.  I think you'll like the Diva, or a similar cup like the Luna.  The Diva sits low in your vagina, the end of the cut stem on my Diva is just inside my body.  It stays in because of the suction created by the small holes around the rim of the cup.  It works GREAT, I really think you should try it, especially if you're having trouble with tampons.  I always hated tampons, and was so happy to find an alternative.

  • Get the bigger size cup now; you can find it for a good price on Amazon. This is my first cycle using it, and so far I much prefer it to tampons. I always felt *off* with those, but this is very comfortable. I'm 29 and have 1 child, and use the 2nd size.
